I'm about to drop about 2k on some nice 5x130 real chrome rims and want to have a little sanity check here on my math. I'd be going from the stock 4.5" to 5.5j x 15 (Porsche pattern 5x130). Seems tight, but within reason.
Thanks

for 2k you could get some Porsche wheels and the rest of the parts to fit them. |

Looks like they'll fit. Do you have at least 14mm of fender clearance, now?
What rim/tire website is that? _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Just a thought, but have you considered the 914 steel wheel which is 1" wider on the inboard side? I have a friend with a '69 ghia and installed a pair of these 914 wheels with some 195/65 15's and the fit is nice and look cool from the rear! That size tire is readily available.
Now as far as the 5x130 wheel, have your own made at I'm sure a noticeable savings. I am going over to a wheel maker here in the Los Angeles area and get his latest contact data plus a question answered for a fellow sambanista on widening some early wheels to 7". I'm thinking core centers are plentiful as 5 lug Porsche wheels were used on many models. I guess the wheel dimensions should be determined after the body work is done and the ride height is finalized.
Hope this helps, Bill. |

What rim? And - realize that no two Ghia rear fenders are the same regarding clearances...

I think you will be OK -- just get under your car and look at the clearance between the tire and the torsion arm -- that is the major clearance issue I've had -- Then take you pointy finger and run it between your current tire and the fender (that's about 1/2") -- If it slides through there you should be golden
It is always easier going out than in -- I went over to Porsche 5x130 with disc brakes all around.... Then found some 16" phone dials on craigslist for $200 about 5 miles from the house -- ended up spending another $80 for some custom 13mm spacers to that I could center some 225's on the rear -- took a little fender rolling, but I think it looks nice now
REMEMBER -- -- If you can slide a piece of paper in there,,,, you have enough clearance LOL

Do you have the 0.6" of fender clearance needed to mount your new tires/wheels? |
