I would like to upgrade my stock wheels. My preference are porsche twist 16 wheels or bbs rs replica.
the problem has been finding the right size and off set.
I was told that if I want to go with the porsche wheel it would need to be 16x7 front and 16x8.5 max back using spacers/adapters from 4 lugs to 5 with porsche pattern, but haven't been able to find anything similar to that.
So I would like to see what others are running in the 16" and 17" range without much modification as I don't want to spend a fortune.
I would like to buy wheels and use spacers or adapters only.
I wouldn't like to go 15" as I want to go a bit bigger.
Post pics of ur set up if u have.
Thanks. |

What would be the perfect offset if I'm looking to get a flush fender look (wheels with fenders)?
Or as close as possible?
I was told my beetle had mini cooper wheels before but the po don't have any pics and I have been able to find any pics in the net. I believe he had the 16" 8 spoke modern mini cooper wheels. |

Take your pick.
All of these cost me less than $400, the current ones cost me $80 at a garage sale
best thing you can do is get away from VW stud pattern and swap to a common one (mine is 4x100)
what model beetle are we talking again?

The first are Japanese Asahitec rims
They are all et40-45 and 7" wide.
The black and chrome zeptors are 18" and the rest are all 17" _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

What brand the one on first pic?
So the best offset for these cars would be 40 to 45? |

It's Asahi tec but I don't think they have made that model wheel for a long time.
Speedy do a replica called hyper fangs but BBS make a similar model too.
Yours is standard beetle right?
You will lose a bit of turning circle with a stock beam but with a narrow beam you then need spacers to push the wheel back out. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

Do u use adapters or did u convert urs to 4x100?
Going with 16's, would they also affect the turning circle or is the same as 17? I guess going 7" wide is what really affect the turning circle right? |

Posting a pic of my beetle so u guys can tell me how it would look with one of those wheels. I'm going for a German look. I just realized I don't have a nice pic of my beetle so I need to take a better pic.

These are the Porsche Boxster Wheels that fit a 74 Super that is German Look ok with the proper tire... Also, with the Topline Disk Kit F & R. Note the Back Spacing(ET) for that is a issue when doing German Looks for the wheel bases are all different through out the years on the Supers..... RB

I spoke today to the PO and he told me that he drilled the disk and rotors to 4x100! So I guess at this point imwill just get some universal aftermarket wheels.
What are a good brand to go with, are those wheels I posted any good? I always heard bad things about aftermarket wheels, should I be worry if I go with one of those.
The horros I heard was on diffferent sports car forums , like 300zx and bmw. Imwonder if yhose wheels are ok for a slower, light car like the bugs. |

I run 4x100 discs all round, wouldn't trust adapters as far as I could throw them
pop a front and back wheel off and confirm your brake do also have 4x100 pattern as well,
I've seen a lot of people mistakenly think stock pattern is 4x100 instead of 4x130
Unless you are going circuit racing there is nothing wrong with aftermarket wheels _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

Not well.
With no adapters and bolted straight to the brakes they would barely be flush.
On adapters they will stick out passed the fender _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

Fender isn't a problem for me as I will be building new fiberglass fenders for my beetle so I can make them wider. I more worried with rubbing issues with any car part. If there isn't any problems like that with these configuration it would be great as those are the most I like and the porsche boxster twist wheels.
What do u think? |
