The oval I am looking at. I believe it is a 56. I assume the hood release is on the drivers side. But i can not get it to release. Is there a trick to getting it open.

If the cable under the drivers side doesn't work, you've got your work cut out for you. You may be able to go in though one of the steering box adjustment openings or if the tanks out, through there. If nothing else works you could cut the handle in half and unscrew it. The latch shares the same bolts. Good luck

Is the cable broken?

Try first to push down on the hood handle a few times.

If cable is not broken, have a helper pull the handle when you push down on the hood handle.

The cable will not budge. I figure it is rusted in the tube.

Well try the above, parts might be rusty and some bumping around will hopefully loosen it all up. The hood latch has a pretty strong spring and that in itself will clamp on the latch parts and if rusty there will not move easily.

Its a one owner car. Tags expired Feb 82. The old man that has it his parents bought it new in Germany. They picked up in Germany then drove it around Europe then they brought it home with them. They said the man drove it everyday. Drove it until he was not able to drive anymore. It Has some dents in the roof from falling branches and some dents in the fenders. But a solid car. 99% rust free. The only rot in the floorboard is a spot abot the size of a quarter infront of the drivers seat.

If you get it, definitely inquire about pictures and any paperwork he might have about that VW!

Oh man! Don't tease us like this! One cool interior shot (awesome by the way)! We can't wait to see more photos and hear more about the negotiations and the haul home!

You'll need to reduce the file size of your photos some way.

Here's a thread that explains some options for doing that:
