First off, sorry to the purists. But I'm loving this 67 project right now!
I've been lurking for a while now, and I'm honestly a little overwhelmed by the amount of info I've taken in in the past couple weeks.
Right now I'm thinking a type 4 motor pushed out a little to right around or just under 2000cc. I'm thinking a turbo. Nothing crazy though. I still have a lot to learn about these motors. As this is not just my first aircooled, but my first foreign car as well. So I'm stepping into exciting new territory. Fret not, I have worked in the auto industry for 15 years.
Orange County/L.A. traffic and my girlfriend are leading me to lean towards an auto. I know, I know. It has the original 1600 with the 4 speed in it now, so I will get to cruise it like that for a little while at least and potentially alter my mind on the shift type.
Looks I'm gonna keep pretty dirty for now. I want to tune in the suspension and drivetrain before I worry about looking pretty.
I want to keep the stance similar to how it looks in the first picture. Low with a little bit of rake. I'm concerned about clearance while turning though...
I expect a little flak, it's cool. I realize this ain't for everyone. Neither is stock/restored. So I'm ok with it. But I'm stoked to get working on this thing!
I'm open to suggestions and ideas as well, so feel free to bounce em off me.
Anyways thanks for looking, and I'll keep you guys posted on updates as they come.

I grew up out there, so I was looking for a location. I might have known where it was. Have fun with it, I'm sure it'll be a blast. _________________ It's not the fall that hurts, it's the sudden stop at the bottom.

I'm not normally a fan of the hacked up t3s but this is kind of cool. Looking forward to some progress. _________________ 1968 FI Squareback |

My mistake, it was in wildomar.
I gotta say, I'm really glad (and a little surprised) that this is being received so well. Thanks all! |

There are a couple of active Type 3 truck threads right now. Not many people here are upset with them.

In my searches I did see that second one. I hadn't seen the top one though. |

Looks like pretty cool project. It having a "chop top" might cause some problems though, as getting glass cut will be the biggest issue with it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Have all the glass, including both stock windows w/vent or single window conversion. I'm thinking I'll stick with the vents though. I never really liked the single window conversions on anything. The rear was sourced from a van. Brand new windshield as well.
Came with four empi's and two steel wheels. I'll be selling the empi's in favor of a set of clean stock steel.
The bumpers are in really good condition save for one minor ding on the rear.
I'll need to find some turn signal lenses, both of the front are missing/broken. But has a clean set of taillights.
Disk brakes up front. New ball joints. Came with a new muffler of undetermined origin. Floors/rockers are solid.
I'll have to take closer stock of all the extras and boxed up parts once I have it in my warehouse in a couple days. I'll post up some more pics then too. |

My mistake. Going off your 1st pic, it looked like the roof was chopped (needing all new glass). Now that I've slept and had some coffee, it looks like it's all normal height. Should be a cool project when it's done though. I almost did that to a 71 Square I have, but chose to just cut the entire roof off it. Yours seems to have a "big back window" in it. That's a little different from the other 2 trucks here in the forum.
New turn signal lenses shouldn't be too hard to find thru ISP and other places, since you've got bullet lenses on the truck.
I kind of like the 8 spokes on it, as the other 2 trucks on here have stock rims. It just makes for "something different".
Are you sure it's a 67? As it looks like a 68 to me (door handles, fuel door) being the give aways. Or is it a 68 body sitting on a 67 pan? It looks like it has a 67 cowl vent system, but you can see the fuel filler neck parts inside the fuel door. But, it's got a "Mickey Mouse" front apron on it (pre-67 part). Was it clipped in front? Can you get us some more pics please?? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

These are from the original ad. I'll get tons more pics once I have it in my warehouse in a couple days. It's titled as a 67. But being new to these cars I can't say for certain which parts might or might not have been sourced from other years/models. It is a "big window" you are correct about that.

That thing is cool! I almost bought it. I'm getting my motor redone and it cost a lot more than I planned so I had to pass. Good luck glad someone picked it up and will do something with it. |

Love my type 3 truck - referenced earlier... the pan I dropped my body onto was very low at first. It was a rough ride at that height- so it's now back to stock. Worked on some minor stuff today.
Do you have any shots of the rear window/cab area and the tailgate custom work? Good luck![/img] _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Find an 78-87 EL camino tailgate, with a little work and some minor cutting you'll have a latch setup that pins at both sides and a release handle that faces the cab. would be very simple and work well... just do me a favor and the rest of the ELKY community... leave the straight tailgates , get one thats banged up a bit... _________________ Schnell, SCHNELL!
