|
|
When replacing the the nose skin 10 years ago on my 75 Westy, I apparently cut the wire near the headlight connection. I'm certain I attempted to label and keep the connector and the grommet for the wire entering the headlight bowl but I cannot find either. I have searched here for info and Bus Depot for replacement parts. Any suggestions for both the grommet and the proper plug/connector for the headlight? I have access to local junkyards but would prefer new parts if available.
Thanks for your time. _________________ 1975 Westfalia Campmobile

That would certainly be a good option for the grommet. Also considered the windshield washer shaft grommet. Lowe's would be a simple solution. Thanks!
Then there's the headlight connector/plug... _________________ 1975 Westfalia Campmobile

You will probably have to find a scrapyard donor for that. Not much of a market for reproducing that part. _________________ All the redemption I can offer, girl, is beneath this dirty hood

I have a couple of used vanagon headlight connectors. Don't know if they are the same shape.
Post a closeup photo and I'll check what I have.

If you are running H4 bulbs, all use the same connector. Get anywhere.
If you are using really big H4 bulbs, like 100/130, you would want a high temp phenolic connector. Not so easy to find. I would ask at David Stern lighting. The connector for the bmw /5 series motorcycle is very nice but you would have to go to an online boneyard for those.
I run 10Ga wire to the bulbs and use no connector. Just SAE Female spades and call it good. |

Any FLAPS will have a universal sealed beam headlight pigtail and likely a grommet of the correct diameter as well. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

ECS tuning will have the correct grommet. You can get the part number from German Supply's website. |

I took a look at what I had from a vanagon and the connector in your photo. Not at all the same.
I'm of no use.

Picked up two pigtails at my flaps. No grommet yet.

If your hardware store doesn't have them, Radio Shack carries assorted grommets, you may have to buy an assortment to get the one you need but then you'll have others that come in handy. _________________ Dirk

back to the connector/pigtail I bought.... Since I cut the original wires to my headlight I don't know which wire is which? My replacement pigtail has all three same colored wires. I have searched for a solution with no results. Any input or pic would be greatly appreciated. _________________ 1975 Westfalia Campmobile

You should have brown, yellow and white. Brown is ground. CHeck you bulb with a meter. The tab that is common to both of the others is the ground.
I forget which is hi or low, yellow or white. Someone will check in on that. But you can just try it by twisting wires temporarily and hitting the switch. No harm if you reverse hi and lo. If reversed, switch them and you are done. If not reversed you are done. Build. |
