Well it's finally happened!!!
After a long time searching I finally found a car that fitted my needs.
I was after a 60's Ghia coupe, an California car to bring back to the UK to work on and bring back to life. Not having the largest budget in the world I soon realised that they are becoming rarer and rarer. Obviously my biggest hurdle was not being in the States to go view any car that came up.
After a few begging posts on here for anyone 'in the know' who would be prepared to view anything for me I got in contact with c21darrel on here, and how glad I am for him.
Firstly Darrel said he would go and look at any car within his area,I bet he regrets saying that now. He has been to see 3 cars that fitted my criteria, not just looking but then sending me a full report on the condition of it. Finally he saw the 69 in Alhambra CA earlier this month and said it was a good solid original car with no rust worth talking about just some paint required and generally updating, perfect!!
So that is why I'm writing this from a hotel room in LA!! I took his word as gospel, made an offer, which was accepted and I took delivery yesterday. Not only that Darrel has said I can store the car at his place until I ship it home.
I could never have hoped to meet nicer people who are willing to help, and thanks to them, especially c21darrel I now have my car.
Thanks to everyone for advice given.

X2 on that Ghia...and that man Darrel.

x3...almost looks like British Racing Green...that is a choice color. i'll bet Darrel really enjoyed looking on behalf of another...I love the search almost better than the purchase.
I really don't know many of you, but I feel a comradeship, here on the Ghia forum, that I don't feel on any of the others, here on thesamba. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

What "paint [is] required"? Looks perfect. Very happy for you and great job, Darrel, for making this happen. Sure are a lot of Ghias returning to Europe. Its comforting to know they will be well cared for and loved back there. |

Love the car and color.
I believe Darrel, at one time or another, has helped most of us.
Way to go Darrel. _________________ The 68 Ghia

She's showing her good side to the camera. Although the paint is all pretty solid the drivers door, front quarter and trunk lid are all flaking quite bad. Luckily not through rust, I reckon from poor prep before previous paint. So when I get it home,a good rub down and repaint, keeping it the same. Although I might go Ivory for the roof instead of white.
Thanks for all the nice comments, nice to know you think I've got a good un !!! |
