Last night I found the source of my oil leak... my oil pressure sensor. It seems to be worse than I imagined it to be, but I couldn't see exactly where it's coming from just obviously the oil sensor.

I don't think it's lose and I'm assuming the plastic bit sticking out with the wire spade on it is what's cracked over time.

My question is, when I replace it - do I add a Tee and a temp sensor?

Other questions:
Does this add an additional point of failure for the engine (fail sooner - poor connection on oil pressure, etc?)
Is there a sensor that does both oil temp and pressure to avoid the Tee?
Is there a good reason this is a bad idea?
Wireless temp sensors/gauge?

This is my daily driver and I want to keep it in decent shape. I'm not sold on the idea of adding gauges but it makes sense.

Any thoughts or ideas are welcome.

Replace leaky oil sensor. Buy good German unit. They ALL tend to leak at some point. Some more then others.

Be careful replacing it. Don't over tighten it or you could crack where it threads into. In fact you may want to check that a PO did not do this before. It might be where the leak is coming from and not the sensor itself.

I did the same upgrade awhile ago
The pressure switch with the pressure transmitter is an easy install
The temp that I used came off the sump drain plug. This is a simple replacement part that has a temp sensor installed. Just run a new wire just like for the pressure transmitter to your gauges

What about replacing the oil sensor and getting one of these?

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1380307

The Savemybug oil sensor, it taps onto your wire that your oil sensor
uses and flashes your oil dash light to let you know it's getting hot.

I've mulled one of these myself, it's not a bad feature ifyou dont want
to run cables/wires to the engine bay.

(note if you do, others reccomend running a multi conductor wire 4+ conductors from the dash to engine bay, that way you have extra wires if you decide on more guages or etc.)
I did this when I ran a tach wire to the back, so I have 3 extras for future additions.

let us know how it goes,

T
