Searched the forums here, Krylon satin black seems to be a good choice to replicate the OEM engine tin color. Is there a different black, such as gloss used on other engine-area parts (such as flywheel, etc)? Any other suggestions for a go to spray can paint choice for tin repaint?

I think a satin sheen is what was original and Krylon is an inexpensive way to get there. Take pics Smile

that is what I used. I think a qt can of Rustoleum at home depot was $14. I sprayed it with my trusty $12 harbor freight HVLP gun. Its a step above rattle can and a step below powder coating.

I didn't have good luck with the BBQ paint. It held up well to the heat, but gasoline will dissolve it!

THAT right there ^^^^ is why I'm pretty much anti rattle can. I've found that almost all rattle can products succumb to Gasoline.

I use 2 part single Stage Automobile paint for anything I Paint that I Want to last and stay colorfast for a long long time! From wheels, to intake manifolds to Foul Poles for baseball and Soccer Goals.

Pay up front for a good powder coat finish, and do it once; it'll last for years. Or, be cheap up front, and paint it cheap, and hone your painting skills every year ... You choose.

I used ceramic coating to get the gasoline proof and oil stain proof black satin look on my engine tin.

Just a few of the engines I've powder coated over the last few years.

BBQ paint is not fuel proof and will wipe off with a fuel leak or spill. I've been using the black automotive enamel that's sold at Lowes, works great.

Expensive IMO but awesome! However, I had a neighbor that put an old oven in the basement after he remodeled his kitchen and he powder coated his own motorcycle parts. Laughing
