Hi - I had my 1970 Standard Bug up on stands and did quite a bit of work to it . Probably 3 months off and on . Anyway . Everything was cool . I fired it right up and it ran pretty good . Slight hesitation , so I slightly advanced the timing . At this point , the engine ran for a couple seconds , and quit . I started it . It ran for a couple seconds and quit . It appears that the carb is flooding . I checked all the parts in the distributor . And current is going through the coil and the condenser and points . It does fire . I'm curious if maybe a small particle got in the jet or possibly a stuck float . Are the Australian guys there ? I would guess you would know . I removed the muffler unit . There was a hole on the left upper pipe . Burned through . I welded a piece of mild steel and wrapped it around the pipe . I'm wondering if the Carb sucked up some dirt particles . Now that I'm writing this , I bet that is what happened . Feels like a bad power valve . Anyways the muffler is really loud . I take it the internal baffles are burned out ? Thanks - John |
