Can you convert a bosh dual vacuum advance distributor to single vacuum advance? Is it just a matter of changing the can?

What would be the purpose? For starters the vacuum units aren't interchangeable between the distributors, the single from what I remember has a spring that pulls the advancement plate back when at idle, what pulls the advancement plate back on the dual vacuum is the bigger spigot port on the dual vacuum unit.

Yes, your dual vacuum dual advance distributor has vacuum advance and mechanical advance and vacuum retard, hence dual vacuum, dual advance.

Simply disconnect the vacuum retard line and plug the hose from the carb with a screw. Your timing will then not be retarded to 5 degrees ATDC and run like hot crap.

Smile Assume the dist is a single vac and adjust timing to the 7.5 mark.

Yes, but mixing and matching the cans can give unpredictable results.

I would just disconnect the vacuum retard.
