Tired of it? Or simply bored with it? Get busy on a project and suddenly after work there is not enough time in life to get it all done let alone empty partying when there is no real celebration. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

I can sympathise with the family thing. Can't even count how many family members had issues with it. More than a few died early as a result. My one brother quit after almost killing himself in a car wreck.....He ALMOST had his son in the car, but didnt. He's been sober for 25 years at least. Did and still does AA.
Brother number 2 is close to beating it. I expect him to be dead within 6 months.
Me - divorcing ex-wife helped a lot. There's usually a reason people drink and she was a big one. Suggestion is to go to the meetings and try to get a handle on why you have the problem. And of course, I am one to talk though - still smoke....... _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

If you are serious about quitting you have to go to AA. You can't do it yourself. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Im doing it this way. I dont have a problem but just dont want the extra calories. So i told myself lets quit for 40 days and measure the results. The first couple of days sucked, but it has now been 3.5 weeks and even with super bowl, i dont really miss it. Ive dropped 8 pounds and feel great. Sleeping has improved and all of the sudden restaurants are cheaper and im finding more money in my pocket. The forty days will be up just after Valentines day. I will then decide if i want to have an occaisional drink or set another goal. The way im losing weight and feeling healthier, i may set another goal, say, no drinking until summer etc... I find small goals are the best for me. Since Im seeing the rewards its awesome. If i was to just say no more drinking ever, i would mentally have a problem quitting and sticking to it. Thats just me. I need achievable goals and then go from there, otherwise the big picture is too overwhelming, like restoring old VWs, small goals until you finish the whole rig
As a side note alcoholism runs in my family and i was up to 3 drinks a night, every night. So, at 41, i could be headed down the wrong path. |

It is embarrassing. I guess I would call myself a functioning alcoholic. I am going to visit an old friend. He has close to 10 years sober and involved with the local AA. |

Thank yall for your kind words.... I've quit other vices... this 1 will be tough. Still a cigarette smoker, maybe be easier to quit without a beer in my hand. It will be the best decision I've made so far. |

Tobacco kills far more people than alcohol. Why do you want to quit drinking? |

Start smoking Crystal Meth and you'll never think about drinking again.
Seriously, drinking can be very social, so learn to drink soda or juice so you don't miss the social aspect of it.
I stopped drinking 35 year ago and don't miss it. _________________ Glenn
