28 days? On day 23. My 4 year old is now asking daily if I am in my slug bug. My ex thinks it s an eye sore. I have had to keep busy with it otherwise a drink still sounds good. I have had to evaluate relationships already. It has been entertaining for sure. Thank y'all for your support. |
Good work. You are setting a good example for your child and setting the stage for a successful future.
I grew up in an alcoholic household and only now in my 40s am I realizing how badly this affected my future.
I didn't sleep much and did poorly in school due to my living conditions, and developed a sense of inevitable failure.
I'm not stupid so I know if I had grown up in a more positive environment I would have done better in school and had more choices open to me.
Your child has a better chance at success now. Keep it up! _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

Applause to you jjohnson67. Keep going strong.
There were times in my life when I drank too much. During college I was drinking to "forget" in the midst of a divorce. A caring coworker looked at me one day and asked "why are you trying to kill yourself?" That was all it took. I was lucky. _________________ Larry in OB

Now is a good time to get professional help. Go to your doctor. Good luck. _________________ 1973 1303 with AB-motor - sporadic

Very good!
I had to quit for health reasons (Pancreatitis, look it up.) Quit smoking too.
It was like getting a raise!

Just celebrated a year clean and sober earlier this month. Went to detox for 3 day's and haven't had anything since.
Different programs help different people. Don't give up.
AA didn't do anything for me and I didn't see paying $50 a session with a counselor. I just stopped putting myself into bad situations.
Good luck man. _________________ ~Eric |

Being embarrassed and disappointed is a good thing... it shows you care about yourself and this will ultimately contribute to your success. Just remember how bad you felt/feel. Praying for you brother. _________________ 1972 Westy ("Bubbles") - Pastel White - 1700(1974 MT) - Dual Solex |

You messed up. You owned it. You're on day 3.
I think you'll be OK. Admitting there's a problem is half the battle, right?

Try to identify your trigger. Why did you get drunk?
If its the wrong people then make changes. If its an unresolved issue than address it.
Relapses should be an opportunity to learn something about yourself and your disease. |

it's a long road to hoe and most of it is concrete. I dont have the drinking gene or smoking gene.but my wife does. it aint eazy. I dont know or have any answers. I do like the taste of a few drinks and can have a smoke and not need another one of either. do I get cravings??yes from the nicitine leaving my system a day or so lator.but I know what it is and just have no need to have another. I wish it could be that simple for everybody. unfortunly I am addickted to a few other things........speed...power.....fuzzy thing and soft spots. kep your eye on the end of the tunnell and hopefuly you wont see the train wreck. good luck |

Brother I know what you're goin through. I fight it every day myself. There is certainly nothing easy about it. I almost gave up my home because that bottle was way more fun than paying a silly house note. My wake up came when my kids began referring to me as an alcoholic. Tough thing to hear from your 14 year old daughter. Sure there have been relapses, but there have been far more sober than non-sober days. Something that helps me is to compare how many sober days I have had versus those that I lost the battle. Maybe I messed up a time or two, but there have been months without the demons. I don't post on here much but felt like this one I should respond to. I have watched this thread from day one. You got this, and believe it or not, you ain't alone! |

Never give up on yourself.
Lots of good advice in this thread.
My dad was an alcoholic. He fooled himself for years. It cost him a marriage and probably some friends. Finally he went to AA and he was like a new man. We finally had a relationship.
Unfortunately he was an alcoholic when I was born so they say I am predisposed to it. I have to watch out and am constantly asking myself, "why are you having that beer?" I don't want it to happen to me.
Fortunately I don't drink when I am depressed or upset. |

You had a bad day. Fell off the wagon - but now you are back on board.
Four pages in and you notice that everyone here is rooting for you? You have friends here - OK digital ones at least! _________________ Larry in OB

You are self-aware, committed to improving your life and health. That is what counts in long haul. No guilt, move on. That is how the spiral of life works, you revisit your old self from time to time and keep growing outward. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
