Hey all, I'm about to send a set of stock wheels to get blasted and powdercoated. Before I do so I need new clips installed. Are german or equvalent quality clips and rivets available? If anyone has feedback on good replacements, please let me know where to get them.

Thanks all, NAES

WW has some, and the tool to install them. Someone over in the Thing/181 has a write-up about it.

I've used the bugpack ones, that come cardboard blister packed by the 5. They are decent and seem to hold up well. I'm having some rims coated right now too, but I was considering having the clips zinc plated and installing them after the powder coat. Last set the powder didn't hold up on the clips..

My understanding is that the Wolfsburg West ones are the good ones.

I've used them from time to time at random to replace a single clip here and there and they seemed good.

The tall clips with the "D" embossed into them are the best clips.

If you install short clips, they break as soon as you try to remove a hub cap. The shorter clips getting caught under the curled lip edge of the hub cap is the main reason

Have you tried them yet? I've found clips that claim to be the "good" ones ranging from $4 - $15 / wheel, but can't tell from the pictures in they're tall or have a 'D' on them.

Thanks!

Any suggestions/recommendations for who sells the good "tall" type clips?

Need to re-clip my CIP-1 wheels, that came with absolute trash quality clips.

EDIT - These maybe look like the "tall" type, that AC.net is selling: http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Hubcap-Clip-and-Rivet-Kit-5-Piece-Set-with-Rivets-p/111-698-131.htm

EDIT #2 - The WW clips look decent also?: http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111601131WW

EDIT #2.5 - Everett endorsed the WW clips (earlier in this thread), plus their shipping seemed a little more reasonable compared to AC, so I went ahead and ordered the WW's... I'll do my best to follow up with another report upon receipt...

I believe that CIP1 has some OE quality ones now. Been a while since I bought any though.

I had bought a set of those inexpensive repro 5.5" wide 5-bolt smoothie wheels from CIP-1 last year, but have NOT had good luck with the hub cap clips they came with... Old-style Volkswagen wheel hub cap clips kits ( http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?...vMLMp4nzD0 ) came in from WW yesterday. They look decent and pretty much "factory style." I ordered 5 kits, and just opened up one of them here to look at. One of the clips is slightly "squished" relative to the others (red arrows), not cool, since I'm gonna want to reshape it slightly (maybe use some propane torch heat?)... In addition to the clips being the nice "tall" style, they also have that nice little crease at the tip end (green arrows) that should make them work with hub caps as they should... So, the plan now is to wire brush the wheels locally where the clips mate up, buck the rivets, and then bring the fully-clipped wheels over to my local powdercoater for stripping & re-coating.
