For 1948, 1949 and even up to 1950, STANDARD Beetles only, what colors were offered other than L41 Black/Schwarz? It seems that someone would have already started this specific topic in the forums but I can't seem to find it.

L11 Pastel Green/Pastellgrün
L13 Medium Green/Mittelgrün
L14 Mignonette/Resedagrün
L 21 Pearl Grey/Perlgrau

L32 Dark Blue/Dunkelblau
L50 Early Coral Red???
L51 Bordeaux Red/Bordeauxrot
L70 Medium Brown/Mittelbraun
L 71 Beige/Beige

In 1948 and early 1949 the beetles came in pearlgrey L21 , black L41 , darkblue L32 and in the military colors of the allied occupation forces.

I think they dropped the darkblue on standards at 7/1949 and they where just either black or pearlgrey till mid of 1950.

From 7/1950 on the black was dropped and the darkblue came back along with the pearlgrey till 7/1951.

Pearlgrey stayed all the way on split window standards.

Any idea on the color of the rims and the paint code of hubcaps on the Pearl grey standard in 49.

Thanks,
Does a standard standard have grey rim, grey hubcaps and grey bumpers?...Any color pictures of a 49 standard with painted hubcap and bumper?

As Grant stated, Standards that were exported had chrome bumpers and handles. Home market cars had them painted.

Other than factory literature, color photos from that era are very rare. If you spend some time looking through this thread you will find some.

I have seen pictures and cars from 1948/49 (standards) with two tone colour rims...
for black and pearlgrey cars outer rim in body colour, inner part with red...
...any facts about that?

My Late 1949 Standard states that the car was originally Bordeauxrot (L 51 red)- a pretty rare colour for Standards I expect..

Surely there were exports before 1949, but they were upgraded "standards". The expressions standard and export were not common, but I hope you know what I mean,...

... I have visited the Grundmann collection this weekend and have also seen a grey beetle before 1949, not supposed to be built for export, having a two-tone colour wheel, outer hump in grey, center wheel in red. Please aslo look at the black beetle from 1948 here:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1853689

I have also a film from factory of 1949, where real standard models have two tone colour rims and the new export models have semi tone colour rims.

Could we perhaps say following:

cars from 1948 and 1949 have two tone wheels:

black body: hump in bodycolour, center wheel in red (which red? L50 korallenrot?)
grey body: hump in bodycolour, center wheel in red
medium blue: hump in bodycolour, center wheel light beige (L75 ?)

???

If somebody could assist with facts, I could insert these in the rim-colour-thread from the split-window beetle FAQ...

Just to confuse matters, here is a picture of my May 1947 Beetle, in Bristol UK, in 1956, with its 2nd owner and brother. The wheels seem to be two tone, but whether this was from new who knows? The owner at that time worked in a garage specialising in car bodywork repairs, and if you look at the shape of the front wing, it looks as though it had had a few scrapes, but the paintwork looks good.

You can see a long dent, starting at the bottom of the door, running along the rear 1/4 panel. I recall the owner telling me that this was caused by a milk float running into it! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk_float Again the paintwork looks OK despite the dent.

Kristian provides some interesting paint information above. Where does he get that information from?

For 1946/7 his list says 'Service Green' from British Army cars, but not given as a colour beyond those years. In reality, British Army Standard Splits went up to at least 1952, and maybe longer in Service Green. I have a 1951, ex UK Army, Standard Beetle, ex BOAR (British Army Of The Rhine) which is in Service Green underneath other colours.

Greetings.

IS there any information on the L23 Silver Grey/Silbergrau color? Was it a regular gray paint or a metallic?

Thanks
