It'd be nice if we had a way to do two things:
1) Make our "thanks" known, without creating a new post to say "thanks"
2) Let people accumulate "thanks"... so we can see who's participating... and to be able to show how 'helpful' we are.
I used to frequent the M5Board.com... when I had an M5... they had a similar thing. You could click on a "thanks" button in posts. Here's an example:
Another nice thing about the setup of the forum... was that everybody's feedback link was clickable... by their avatar & it showed how many feedbacks they have. _________________ aka: Evan

I think the "thanks" is a good way to help people put in a little extra detail or time into knowledge transfer posts or 'how to' threads. It's kind of a social incentive. _________________ aka: Evan

The "Thanks" is interesting, although I doubt I would want it to list the names like that. A count is sufficient.
This is similar to things I have seen elsewhere, like "Likes" or upvotes/downvotes.
The feedback thing - there is a link here to a person's thread, if it exists.
It looks like they use some sort of eBay-style feedback on that site, which I do not have here as there is no direct way to tie a given transaction to a buyer and seller like an eBay auction.
Is it handled a different way on that site?
It looks like anyone can leave feedback for anyone else there.
I do not believe we could do that here. Anyone being able to leave feedback for anyone else would be a massive headache of people leaving false feedback and complaints from both buyers and sellers. We already have this issue sometimes just anyone being able to post in the Feedback Forum. _________________ How to Post Photos

The feedback is tied to user name... instead of a created thread.
No feedbacks = it just showing as a zero.
IIRC... when an ad is deleted... it sends an email to buyer & seller inviting them to leave feedback. Not part of the sale = no chance to comment.
I'll visit again & repost with clarifying details. _________________ aka: Evan

I am a part of the forabodiesonly forum that is for A body Mopars(chrysler) and they implement the thanks / thanked idea quite splendidly. Always thought it would be kinda neat here

There is also a Thanks feature on the Hudson car club forum i participate in. I find it a nice feature for lurkers to participate and show appreciation. The feature is well received on that board as well. I think it shows the name of person who said thanks, but its a much smaller community than samba.

Everett,
I know you said you doubted you'd want to include the user names.
The other day you provided confirmation on what bug vs bus vent window latches looked like. I posted "thanks".
My user name was then associated with the thanks.
So you knew it was me thanking you... which I wanted you to know.
If there was no user name associated... I'd feel odd with your not knowing "I" appreciated you.
Plus ten more people may find that confirmation you provided very useful & also want to thank you (but would not go so far as to make another post with limited technical value in a thread... months later). I wouldn't mess up a good conversation in a thread to butt in and say thanks for something five pages back... but may really want to be able to express thanks... or revive a resolved thread, just to say thanks.
The thanks banner at the bottom of a post appears only when been "thanked"... so not every post would have the it. A lot of names can fit across the page width. _________________ aka: Evan
