Hi All,
How can I best determine the value of a beetle in my father in law's backyard? I know very little about beetles. Here are the details:
1957 Oval Window
Ragtop, missing hardware
No Engine
Minimal Rust, floorboards if at all.
Possibly "chopped" top?
No Title
Thanks for your patient assistance. |

Hit the classifieds with the search button to get some examples
A well running correct motor is about 600 USd, the rag top is desirable but having just the hole detracts a lot.
It is certainly a lot closer to a 1000 car than a 10000 or even 5000 USd car _________________ .ssS! |

Thanks! Does it help the value at all if it has semaphores or is that common in this year? |

A '57 would be a European car if it has semaphores, unless they were added.
A normal US-delivered car would have bullet turn signals up front and no semaphores.
The reason I am thinking they could have been added is that you mention it might have a chop-top.
If it is chopped then other modifications are open too.
Post pics of it if you are not sure about the chop. _________________ How to Post Photos

If it's a possible chopped top, the entire roof may have been replaced with a rag and semaphores. Could be a total franken-car pieced together from random parts. |

The top has NOT been chopped.
With nothing covering that hole in the roof, plenty of water has gotten in . . . I'd be concerned about not only the floors, but also the heater channels and door hinge pillars.
Missing the seats, deck lid, taillights, and engine are considerable detractions from the car's value.
The hood (and possibly the front fenders) are incorrect, so that would lead me to think that maybe it has taken a hit to the front. Need picks of inside the trunk to see if that's the case.
While you are in the trunk, pull out the spare tire so that you can verify that the vin plate number in the trunk matches the number stamped into the chassis . . . a pretty important detail! _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

It has been covered on top most of the time. Until the latest tarp disintegrates under the sun and gets replaced. Additionally, I have the trunk (deck?) it's in storage.
More pics to come. |

Get this sweet peach indoors or at least covered up until you sell it, you don't want any more water inside! As we all have seen, the beetles are watertight and any water entering will only cause havoc with the floors.
It is highly unlikely that these semaphores are retrofitted, much more probable that the peanut indicators are fitted later. No beetle came with both. This is probably a Euro spec car that has been brought across the pond. If it weren't for the shipping I'd be all over it, if nothing else to get rid of those bloody eyelids.
Looking forward to seeing the shape of the floors. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image
