Put an adjustable front on, now I feel ever crack and bump in the road and it feels like it's gonna shake my bug apart, and rides like crap. Would drop spindles help the ride and make it less bone shaking?? Or do all the bugs I see around that are slammed ride like crap..
Thanks |

Drop Spindles make a world of difference! I also use a oil rather than gas style shock to keep that plush / non harsh ride. _________________ Matt Sheldon |

You might want to look into getting caster shims too. You are changing suspension geometry when the front and rear are not at an equal level. Caster shims compensate for this when you drop the front. Spindles will help too. |

call me stupid, but before i lowered it I forgot to measure the ride height. I can tell you the front is about 4 inches from the ground now, pluse 145 up front so it is pretty low. I did by shims but haven't had the time to put them in. Thats next on my list.
About the spindles... Can I get ball joint spindles without going to disc breaks?? all i have seen are sold as a set..
Thanks for all the help.. |

Mine ride great. I loswered it 3" with avis adjusters, single caster shims and Opel GT shorther shocks. Tires are 195/60-15. _________________ Glenn

I think I'll try the shims and get some shocks... i know that it won't make it ride on air but I think it will be an improvement over how it is now until i get the spindles..
Question about the shims.. exactly where do they go.. I mean in between the two bottom bolts or outside of them
Thanks |

Yes you can get the spindles for either drum or disk. By not using the spindles you are sacrificing 2 - 2 1/2" of suspension travel. Normally the harshness you feel is the shock bottoming out due to the lack of travel by not using the spindles. _________________ Matt Sheldon |

The caster shims go between the frame head and the lower tube of the beam. here is a pic. Did you get longer bolts?

if ur going really low, just get rid of your shocks all together...that will smoothen it out a lil
yes, drop spindles will make it less bumpy _________________ Dayzchopper -- www.volksrods.com |

my car rides better than it did when it was stock-
adjustable narrowed beam, drop spindals and the cheapest on special weak a** oil shocks you can get- I think my whole set was less then $50 at autozone- _________________ 66 sundial

Thanks to all for the advice.
I feel less depressed now that I know I have a better ride to look forward to and to also know I didn't screw up something in the process.
JaredB:: Thanks for that pic. It helps a ton, and yes I did get the longer bolts so I'm good to go. Now I just have to find the time to do it all. |
