|
|
Hi
Got a 64 bug and thinking about what to do stereo wise. Don't want anything flash, I don't listen to CDs or radio-just the ipod. So need something to go between the ipod and speakers in the rear parcel shelf.
Does a standard car stereo fit in the glovebox, with the ipod plugged into the front, or back
Are there any alternatives, small amp or something? I want it to be all in the glovebox when it's on, glovebox door shut.
I realise that there are previous threads on this but couldn't find anything which wasn't super flash or involved putting the ipod somewhere else, etc etc. It is a classic ipod so probably too big for a dock or something.
Any help greatly appreciated! |

I bought a new plastic glovebox I could cut out the back. Stored away my OG VW Paperboard glovebox.
Bought a JVC unit from best buy with bluetooth, CD, USB in the front to charge my phone (no cig lighter). Added a deck and speakers in the back. Wired it down by the passenger a pillar where the heater hose comes up. Out the access hole behind the carpet. Along the carpet under the back seat and in the back luggage compartment.
The JVC unit cost my about $59 on sale. Any Unit with Bluetooth and USB would be ideal for what you are looking for. I can stream from my phone or listen to CD's/radio. THis also allows me to keep the OG radio wired and operating. _________________ 1966 Beetle Pearl White |

Thanks a lot.
Don't mind whether it's an ipod interface or cable. The only thing with the dock is that it probably won't fit height wise.
I just want it all tucked away in the glovebox really.
Can anyone recommend a small amp that will fit in there?
I don't want amazing sound, it's only going to a pair of 6 x 9s at the end of the day, but it would be nice to have something half decent with a bit of poke! |

I only had to cut a small opening for the wiring in the back. Most new indash style players fit nicely in the glove box in this manner.
7" Deep x 7" wide x 2 " tall. The key here is buying the $15 black plastic box replacement from WW or Jbugs. Don't cut up your OG paper box. Save it. _________________ 1966 Beetle Pearl White |

Use this one so you dont have to cut your Original glove box.
The plastic is easy to cut. There is even a plastic version for $40 ish that has a design specifically for a stereo.
The regular one works great IMO _________________ 1966 Beetle Pearl White |

There just appears to be this one for 28.

Ill email them for dimensions. The problem with most new stereos as I understand is that if the aux lead plugs into the front, it sticks out too far for the door to shut
I don't have a glovebox at the moment so I won't be be cutting anything |

Memphis has a Bluetooth amp combo that is small and sounds good. It has a control unit that can be mounter about anywhere it's about 1 1/2 X 3". The amp is really small and both are water resistant. I had one in my rhino. _________________ 66 beetle |

I really dont think a amp is needed. My unit is like this one. I am using two 6x9's and prolly spent 100 for entire setup new.
Has bluetooth and phone sync along with CD. All you need IMO

But you have to keep it open to plug your ipod or phone into the front? |

How else would you do it? Mine's the same way.Sony in the glove with a wire coming out the front to the iPod .I run it with the door open. Unless you use a plug with a 90 degree bend & drill a hole in floor of glove. Either way you still have the wire . |

Just buy a cd player that has usb in the front and back like JVC Arsenal KD-AR755 for around $100, mount it using the plastic glove box for stereo mounting, then run your wire for your ipod or iphone wherever you want and you don't have to worry about the glove box door not shutting. I know you don't listen to radio or cds but you may someday, plus you can use pandora through your phone and they have a remote. |
