|
|
I'm in the process up replacing the front wheel bearings and changing from ball bearings to roller bearings. I've managed to get out the races in the drums, and one of the spindle races (may have to cut the seconed one- it's pretty stuck).
My question is- the bearings don't come with a replacement for the race on the spindle. In looking at the bearings, it looks like they don't need one, and they'll fit right over the spindle. Is this correct?

Rollers should slip on ok, they are supposed to be direct replacement.... Dont even think you can find ball bearings any more unless you find some NOS parts....
Dont know for sure but if there is a spacer behind inside ball bearing (later front ends do have them), you will probably need it with rollers....

Got it done. Startedto cut it with a Dremel, but halfway through it just popped loose. I assume it was the heat....
Got it all packed up and put back together. Must have been rough for a while... I couldn't believe how quiet and smooth it was
Thanks all for suggestions and help! |

I put tapers on mine when I rebuilt the front end last summer.
I did find the brgs do not allow the seal to ride properly on the collar. I rechecked the brgs to make sure they were seated.
The seal rides just on the radius and not up and over. The locknuts ride mid section of the threads.
This spring I think Im taking it apart again and machine the inner drum recess about an 1/8" to give me more space between the brg and seal..
I did get the numbers for the brgs from the technical site here. Seemed there were not a lot of choices |
