So I have searched this forum and other websites to only find lifted spindles that are 3 to 3.5" of lift. So it got me wondering why there are not taller ones out there or at least discussed. I am considering doing an extreme baja with large swampers on it and have looked at different combinations of lift...body plus turned front beam and raised spindles up front could get me 9" of lift. Then in the rear a 3x3 TA with body lift and atomic raised swing arms should also yield 9" of lift. Thoughts on the limits of spindles lifts...if you use a 1/4 or more steel plate...is that strong enough. Thanks for your time.

Here you go:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=554267

One picture shows his spindle.

My grandfather and a racing partner of his participated in a vw mud racing sport that was hosted YEARS ago.
They built about a 5 inch lifted spindle made of 1/4" flat plate, it never failed on them but they said the flex was terrible.
I went to his old racing partners house one day and looked at the retired beetle they built.
The spindle didn't have any gussets or reinforcement whatsoever.

Unfortunately I lost all of my pictures of it.

Thanks for the link. Do you think those spindles are ~6"??? Also, it is hard to tell, but what size tire do you those are? 44" TSL Super Swampers?

with something like that its, All Show No Go.
it would cause so much stress under offroad conditions and fail.
Ball joins or linkpins-tie rods-arms ect.

I'd say the spindles are lifted 6-8" to be able to match the rear lift.
The rear is lifted 7" with the double stacked gear reduction boxes.

That's just accounting the lift before the trailing arms on the front & rear.

The tires greatly resemble a Gateway "Monster Gumbo Mudder"
I'd day they are definitely 44's if that is a 15" wheel.

Even though I did share the link and whatnot...
I strongly agree with this.

Maybe that's how they got the right gearing for those 100lb tires.
