Moderator edit: Play-on-words recognized, but title lightly amended to be more location-specific.
[Moderator note 1: For those not using Facebook, meet details are here: http://www.vangelenos.com/?page_id=10 . "The regular meet-up for the Vangelenos occurs the 3rd Saturday of every month @ Crystal Springs Picnic Area @ 10am-2pm".
Moderator note 2: Poll removed, 10/9/2015, since it is no longer needed and the 30-day poll time has expired.]
There's been a start of a Los Angeles Vanagon meet-up group.
The main page is on FB here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/725680570882543/
So far we're discussing to a vote of the following for our first-meetup in early April (4th)
From the FB post:
For our first meet-up which doesn't indicate the "regular" spot, but our first time meet-up I envision a "default spot" when no events/ideas are going on. One suggestion is whatever decided should allow for some "hanging out" with the driving. This way we can get to know everyone. Personally, I'll have my two pups with me. Here are some ideas presented that can be voted on. I suggest we line something up early April (4th suggested) giving time for new members to join and hear about it.
Moderator note: Original poll options, for archive purposes:
Under the LAX runway at the beach
Will Rogers State Historic Park
Griffith Park
Santa Monica drive to Griffith
PCH from LA to OC
Point Vicente Interpretive Center, in PV
Bolsa Chica State Beach
Huntington State Beach _________________ -Will

I'm In Santa Ana. I'm really involved in the community and think it's time to take my obsession of vans in to my knack for organizing community events.
Also, tired of my friends looking at me funny when I tell them I have 2 vans.
Count me in. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL / Carat Interior / Auto - White "Daily"

Would love to do this at the beach. I'm not all that close to the beach, but worth the drive.
If at Griffith, can we make it at the observatory for the view?
Hope I can make it.

You live in "The Rock" too?! I think I've seen your van driving to Jimmy Deans! Haven't found another Westy in this town at all!

Jim,
The voting will let us know the first-meet up. I am not sure if some would want to make it a big event or a simple event starting out, so why I gave a list of options.
We will be doing beach trips for sure in the future. The options that didn't make the muster for the first meet-up will be done in future events (=

Check the threads I started on So. Cailf. GTG. Back in 07 I think. Us here in So. Cal. have a lot of things going on in life. The San Diego folks seem to have a good thing going. _________________

Anyone else voting on this? Get your votes in now...
Unless another spot emerges from the pack and overtakes Griffith Park, it looks like that will be the place.
Will: Did you have a particular place at Griffith in mind?
Still up for April 4th?
What time of day? Morning? Lunch? Afternoon?

Griffith Park is the winner between the two groups.
I'm not sure exactly where to park, so I will scope it out before and get there early so people see a van in a spot.
We're hoping for a lunch pot-luck, so bring some yum-yuma if you like!

D'oh. This sounds great. Don't know that I'm available for April 4th. What's the start time? _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL / Carat Interior / Auto - White "Daily"

11am, but I expect it to go to 1-2pm. It's a pot-luck van cook deal, so lot of eating and chatting

Yep! That's where my home is
But I left the vote to the people and they spoke.
We'll be hitting the Crest in future events!

So, Saturday, April 4th,
11:00AM - 2:00PM in Griffith Park.
Where in Griffith Park?
It's a big place - close to 7 square miles.

Hi, I don't stray over to this side but heck, I'm a VW owner, right. I used to work for LA City, so check with Parks and Rec to see if a permit is required.
Just a thought, but "Drivers Wanted" VW club meets on Sat eve in the WalMart parking lot in Porter Ranch. Lots of places for meals and plenty of room. Go recon them out. Seems many of the air-cooled guys hook up at a local fast food place. I may just stop by at your spot in Griffith Park, but as a warning, on weekends the park fills up very fast!
Hope this helps, Bill. |
