Hi everyone I've been following the Samba for years, and have been active in the UK scene for a long time.

I picked up a Type 34 about 5 years ago and have been collecting parts to start my build.

Now for the purists stop reading now, don't get me wrong I love a stock type 3 but this car was never going to be that. I got it without an engine, a fubar'd tranny and serious rust damage to one rear corner of the car.

The goal is to have a Razor that I can tour round Europe in and even tow a trailer (caravan)

I don't want to give all of the game away straight away, I'll let it evolve as I continue this thread.

I am really lucky in that my workshop is round the corner from a guys shop who hand builds cars, I'll post some pictures of his work with his permission. Oh and he used to build prototypes for Porsche back in the day. He was into Volkswagens years ago, so my project has got his interest.

I must say a huge thanks to Clatter and Nate who I have been following and are a real inspiration

No Razors don't have a lot in the way of roof strength, and just starting to take the weight of the car by its bumper mounts made the doors nip up and not be able to be opened!!!

The pan can be removed and the body is rock solid.

That doesn't look like a type 4 Brent. Wink But, this is beginning to look very interesting. Cool
Seems that the T-34 rebuilds are starting to come out of the woodwork now. Shocked

Wow. Just, Wow. Shocked

That's going to be a big, big project right there....

How are you going to crack that nut?
Subframe fab like mine?
Full frame?

Having that heavy of a motor, it would be sweet if you could move the transaxle forward a bit...

I'm going to use an IRS SB subframe, full pan, and 1303 frame head. It isn't going to be all super beetle at the front though, I've got something special in a box from San Deigo on its way across the pond. Yeah, the 915 box needs to be as far forwards as practical,

Wow, Brent, Clatter and Bobnotch, you guys rock and I value your opinions, so to have you all comment on my thread is great

Now, this pan has never been off the car, and I have never seen the leading edge of one looking like this! Apart from the outer sills (rockers) and one gnarly rear corner from a botched repair and a dislodged drain hose there is very little rust.

It's such a shame it wasn't a matching numbers car......... what am I saying, if it was I wouldn't be able to have all this fun Very Happy

What's that famous line from the movie "Jerry McGuire",. . . "You had me at 915 tranny and a Porsche -6" no; wait. . . Laughing Wink Finally, a type-34 that has an owner that's willing to TAKE THE DRESS OFF and do it right!! God bless you Sir!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Talk about raising the bar?? Right-on!!!!

Seriously, this is the first type-34 that I've ever seen where the owner has been willing to take it to the next level. Most folks do stock or bolt-on "resto-mods".

You have my full attention and admiration. . . Popcorn
