You can drop a steel rod inside, or pipe it on the outside

Like MacLeod Willy says, you can put a solid rod on the inside or pipe on the outside. If your front beam is cut and turned to increase the ride height and you go with the pipe on the outside, the larger diameter tie rods may hit the frame head.

It also looks like a neater job on the inside.
Just leave a 1/2 of clearance on the inside for future front end alignments.

A dab of silicon to stop it from rattling too

You can cut a stock VW sway bar to put inside the stock tie rods, they fit perfect.

I have lift spindle and I was pushing around the idea of welding a tube on the outside, but does any one make these?

i think i got mine from tweeds. they are 1" OD with ford ends. they also have a machined hex on the ends for easy adjustment. Realitively inexpensive too.
i did have to modifiy my frame tunnel quite a bit though. I cut out a 1-1/2" deep x 2 or 3" wide section and welded in a chunk of 1/4" thick channel so i could have more down travel without hitting the tunnel. It's holding up so far. i even jumped at 35 MPH on the dunes. (it was AWESOME-my glove box door popped open, my battery died-i think i blew out a cell- and i bent both rear trailing arms, but my front end held up!! haha

Its been awhile, but I think I used either 1/2" or 3/4" gas pipe (black pipe) to lengthen my tie rods for my wider warrior beam.

I cut the original tie rods in equal halfs. I drilled three 3/8" holes near each end of the measured cut length of black pipe. I slid each half of the original tie rods/rod ends into the spindle dropout and pitman arm. With the wheels as straight as I could get them, I tack welded the ends and filled the holes I drilled with puddled welds. They are very strong.

I like keeping my stock tie rods the weak link. Bend one and it's easier and cheaper to replace than spindles or steering box.

With a wider than stock beam, stock tie rods aren't really an option. There is about a 3" gap in the middle of each tie rod where the ends of the two inner stock rods don't meet that suffices as a default failure/weaker point. They would bend before a German spindle.
