I ordered a piece from KlassicFab last summer and received it from Columbia in 3 days! I have no idea how it shipped that fast!
Bogota, Columbia just got 2 feet of snow on Sunday, so maybe that is slowing things down? It should be like our September down there, so this is weird!

Shipping costs are always a factor on the KF stuff , however my experience is the quality is so much better than the denmark stuff .Did you sell your bus dash pad ? If not Id like to look at it. |

Guess I'm lost as usual. I thought the guy was making it in his shop back east... but there is talk of fabrication being done elsewhere. So is the work being done out of the country, or is the commentary about 'slow boats' just a pun? |

based in FL, some stuff still hand made there from what I gather, custom stuff.. Once tooling is made for production panels are manufactured at a factory in Columbia.
Good ol' fashioned American outsourcing!
Still the best panels $$ can buy! _________________ 1971 STD BEETLE- DD-1st car, 1st love. keepin' it stock! 1600DP, Solex 34-3 Mexi Bosch SVDA Dist NOW w/POINTS

I think Gerson moved manufacturing to Columbia to avoid OSHA regulations so he could have a more bare bones setup and keep costs lower. _________________ '79 Westfalia Deluxe Campmobile, 2.0L CA FI, Mexico Beige |

The panels are made in Columbia, nothing to my knowledge is made here (I've been to the headquarters in Fla.). If those parts were manufactured here, we would not be able to afford them. The tooling is one of the most costly parts of the operation. Imagine the press needed to stamp a short rocker, X amount of pressure is needed. No look at the full splitty noses being produced, You need a much larger and stronger press. Go look up a brand new reproduction 1964 1/2 ford mustang and see what you get for how much you pay. Don't complain about how expensive this stuff is. It could be worse. |

Thank you. I am well aware of cost/millwright/production/OSHA and other production problems. Wasn't complaining about cost; hope that wasn't taken that way. I simply was wondering about where it was being made. |

Hey Wasted, just a blanket statement. There are many that settle on lesser quality metal only because they are light on funds and are not sure of the quality of green. The PO of my SC went cheap and I had to replace some metal and sell of the extra for cheap. I spoke with Gerson not long ago, he mentioned he may get another facility in Mex. to do finishing work on many of the pieces in hopes of improving the quality of an already good thing. Hey Bugger101, will we see you at NoDough? I'll show you pics of my unicorn. |
