Welcome! 1971 is my favorite year for the bus. Disc brakes and an engine that I can understand and afford.

Is it possible for you to get ahold of both a John Muir book and a Bentley Manual? Also a photo of your engine compartment would be helpful. And if you search around this site a lot there is a lot of info and photos of engine removal. You may not need to remove the transmission to do body work.

Rear lights and bumpers don't look like a 71.

It is *not* a 1971 model year.

It may have been built in 1971, any time after August will be a 1972 model year.

We cannot just tell you how to remove the engine and transmission online without knowing what model year your bus is, that is why we asked for a photograph of the engine compartment. The 1971 bus has a different procedure than the 1972 bus which is what I think you have.

Hi Ali. Congrats on the bus. If you'll take a photo of the M-code plate and post here, they'll be able to tell you exactly what year you have. This plate might be under the dash (air duct) or behind the driver seat. Goodluck.
