Hello Samba-Land!

Getting going on my new acquisition/project...
I've been reading through the original!! owners manual, and notice a couple items straight away.

1. It appears that 3-point seat belts were original equipment (per text and photo). Is this correct? My Bug has none, and don't know why they would have been removed.
2. Ditto for front doors wing windows. Stock item? Any/all pics I've seen of '69 Bugs show them. Again, my Bug has none, only 1-piece front side glass.

Thank You!! for any feedback on these.
Samba.com is amazing!

Yes, stock items.

VWs are probably the most modified cars ever made.

Here's a topic on fitting Hummer seatbelts - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=526370
Apparently they fit quite well and can be bought for reasonable.

I've always liked the vent wings, though I guess some people may like the sleeker look of the one pieces.
There's a fair amount involved in putting it back to stock, wolfsburgwest has a diagram here - (link)
If you're interested in doing so you should be able to find most of that in the classifies here, though may want new rubber pieces.

Cipi1 also carries front retractable seat belts in black and tan. I installed the tan ones in my bug. They work quite well.

The 69s had the safest seatbelts in my opinion. They are a 3-point, non retractable belt. You set your seat position, then adjust the belt to fit you. I'm sorry, I just don't trust older self adjusting belts with my life. I will admit that they can be a pain when you switch drivers, or put on a heavy jacket. I just prefer the firm hold in the fixed belts give you.

Yes, they were non-retractable, but they had these little plastic rollers that were supposed to wind up and take out the slack when you weren't using the belts. Those plastic winders failed fairly quickly.

Neither of my two 69s had the little winders, and yes they are junk.

I just did the Humvee belts off Ebay, I believe it was $50 for the setup with the special brackets from CIP. Works great! Easy to setup as well....

Never heard of this, and we've had my 69 since brand new-- when not in use we were supposed to hang the belts on the hooks on the B pillar

EDIT: well Ill be damned

I guess you're right then about them failing early, cause here's what's left of mine (always wondered what these pieces were in my parts collection box):

LOTS of great info to absorb and research!
This is going to be a very fun restoration...
