Over on Bike Forums I ran into a few Samba people so I figured we should have a topic here so members can discuss issues.
So if you're a road, mountain, trail, hybrid, commuter, TT racer, BMX or other... post up.
Start with some basic riding info on type and so on. And a picture of your bike(s) if you like.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been road cycling for 3 years and have covered 6500 miles so far. Average ride is 40 miles, average speed is 16mph.
This January i upgraded my road bile to a Trek Emonda SLR Project One with Sram Red 22 and Zipp 303 wheels. The complete bike is a tick over 14lbs.
(i've lost 20 pounds since the photo)
Afer selling my old road bike I purchased a Trek 8.5 Dual Sport. While not a true mountain bike, it can easily handle the off road trails including single track, gravel and grass here on Long Island. It's also really nice on paved surface.

Road bike, charity rides and exercise. The bikes are all early 90's
Bianchi Veloce Celeste parts bike
Bianchi Veloce Celeste steel frame, Campy Veloce double set up
Bianchi Campione Celeste with Campy Veloce triple set up.
The bikes are set up old school touring style with the seat just about level with the handlebars. The steel in the Veloce frames is so much nicer than the tubing used in the Campione. _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

My avatar is a picture of my bike. Homemade for the wife in the wheelchair. Plenty of bike touring before I built it any plenty of bike touring with her after I built it. We have gone from Pittsburg to DC a couple of times. She went blind and we don't ride it anymore. Bike touring without the scenery leaves a lot to be desired. |

Glenn- bikes are my daily passion- VWs 2nd or 3rd. I've recently been selling and donating much of my hoard to convince myself I'm worthy of a new Salsa Vaya 2. I've had my Miyata 610 touring bike since I bought it new in HS (1983). I've got many unusual riders like a swingbike and an old stingray for fun, but my big ache is making sure I order the proper size frame Vaya!
If anyone on here is 5"11" with a mid century modern body shape (32-33" inseam), I'd like to hear your best advice on comfort! _________________

I'd love to see a larger picture.
You're a good guy for including your wife in your cycling. _________________ Glenn

Mostly mountain bikes for me. I do ride road for fitness or when the trails are unrideable. I ride year round ( here in NH ) with fat tire bike and cyclocross bike w/fenders and studded tires for the icy slop. Summertime commute once/twice a week ~40 miles roundtrip under an hour each way and it's hilly! I do some centuries and a 100k MTb race towards the end of summer all in fun. Love to pedal! My Dad's in his eighties and still rides 8-10,000 miles a year. Guess its in my blood
Glenn-that Emonda looks like a lot o fun
Hitest- at 5-11" I'd say 56 on the Vaya _________________

I'm a casual roadie and avid bicycle commuter. I don't race. I did the RAGBRAI tour in Iowa a few years ago and ever since, each year I am disappointed that I am too busy to do this awesome annual multi-day ride. Does anyone know of any similar large scale multi-day rides? _________________ Wish List:

Over 25 years in the bicycle trade. Most of that time at the retail level but I did spend a few years on the manufacturing side in the early 90's during college working for some small specialty builders here in Mi. at NukeProof (hubs, bars) and SlingShot (frames and forks).
I currently have a Trek 5200 for the road, a Schwinn Homegrown Factory Team (built by Yeti when owned by the big S) that will be retired this year, 2 of my early BMX bikes - an early US built Hutch Pro Racer and a Red Line MX, my original Columbus SL tubed road bike that is now a bar bike and one of the SlingShot frames I built.
I also rock a bitchen 68 Schwinn MiniTwinn with a 2 speed kickback. |

I've been riding for many years but the highlights of my riding have been my bike camping trips from Seattle to SF, Chicago - NY, two trips on RAGBRAI, and the Pilgrim's Path across northern Spain. I did the US trips with a Fuji touring bike and the Spain trip with a Bike Friday. I've done only one century ever, from Central Park to Montauk Point, on my 1985 Pinarello.
I still ride once in a while but I hope once I retire to try a cross - US trip.

Thank you Bubblehead! 56 is the size I'm leaning toward- the 57 is a little reachy, but I'm in denial that smaller is okay..
In 79 vert related news- I see you're a Brooks b-17 man. I just bought one in honey to fondle while I wait for my Vaya! _________________

Yes, the Brooks still serves me well on the Pinarello, but I had to finally replace the Brooks on the Bike Friday with a Terry because the more upright position was becoming painful. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Just a casual rider.
Got two bikes, my utility beater and a 29er hardtail
Beater is a Pacific bike found at a thrift store, still had knobbies on it's tires.
I work at a university hospital with the associated parking issues, my lot is a mile from my office. Choice between bus (which makes many a stop), walking, or bike... I chose the short bike ride. The little Pacific probably has somewhere around 2k miles on it and it's just now needing a (fairly major) tune up.
Debating finding a replacement, but I leave it on my car rain or shine and noone is interested in walking off with it. So it's a great bike for that.
My 'good' bike a 2013 Trek Marlin 29er, on nice weekends I'll go run some local trails. |

Pictures of the bike I built for my wheelchair bound wife. We did a lot of overnight touring. Twice from Pittsburgh to DC.
And some detail of the trailer, holds luggage and is a wheelchair when we get there. I can tell by the load on the trailer that this was a weekend trip staying at a Motel, Stubenville to Pittsburg. With the full camping gear, about 60 pounds, the trailer is greatly loaded.

My 2007 xl frame 26" ML1. Being in the desert, I do single track bidirectional trails.
I dont ride trails as much as I used to, so now its mostly rough pavement, hence why I have the tires I do, instead of my old lovely, Kendas.

I try to ride. I've got a trek 1.5 for the road. It's only a 6 mile ride to work, but with the maniacs in the roads here, I'm scared I won't make it one day. I just bought a Mountain Bike right before the snow hit, it's melting now, so it's time to get back on the trails after a 10 year hiatus. I am kind of excited! |
