Ooooooh...also...is that a 4 speed manual transaxle I see in there? if so...if it goes nowhere ...keep me in mind for purchase of the transmission and linkage. Ray |
Ray, I have a linkage removed from a Variant available right now. I was going to toss it in the metal scrap pile otherwise. |
At the moment I am not horribly in need. ...but I also have no spare for the main linkage. I will buy it as soon as I can which may be a month....its tax time and I owe this year
I do have one interesting thing on the automatic note.....I have a pristine differential with side stubs for type 3/4 that is doing nothing for me.
I tend to buy 004 trans when I can find and afford them. You have to go through them. They can last for eons.....but when certain things go wrong.....and they break due to certain items.....you cant really rebuild them easily. Easier to swap either a differential or transfer case in with its gears intact and adjusted to case. Ray |

How rare is very rare?
1 in 5000?
Just curious since I seem to always find projects without a supply of parts ie:
I have a running 1952 David Bradley tractor that needs a clutch pack
.....not available....has to be made
I need a piston ring set for a 1973 Aeromacchi tx175
....not available...unless your are lucky on Ebay
I need a revolver rotator spring for a 1875 "Defender 22" pocket pistol
....Not available for 125 years...Every time I go to a gun smith specialist they want to buy it not fix it. _________________ If I can't fix it, it's broke. |

Actually.....when its noted that its easier to find a manual trans in Canada.....that means that about 90% of them shipped there were manuals.
The real point to make is that if you find a 411 or 412 in Canada it will be 9 out of 10 times a manual.....when or if you find a 411 or 412.
Over six years worldwide only 367,728 vehicles in the 411/412 range were produced. To the USA roughly 2500or were four speed. The total number of vehicles shipped was low.
About 15 years ago I know with pretty good certainty that there were less than 400 driving on this continent. There may be 500 or so driving now with who knows how many wreckw waiting.....but most that were not tucked away because they were just too expensive and well liked to scrap....were left in obscure places to rot like the one you found.....and the vast majority were scrapped.
So....1 in 5000 might be the correct ratio......but in this continent the total #s of cars left may never break 1000 again. Of those.....maybe 3-5% may be four speeds. Ray |

Rare enough but rare doesn't always translate into value. These cars are badly under appreciated by the ACVW community as complicated and ugly. There is virtually no aftermarket for the cars past some mechanical items. The rust you show on yours is worse than my parts car from Ontario Canada. You can literally watch a car dissolve in front of you from that province. Unless you have a large amount of money, REALLY like fabricating parts or body panels or both, and more, this is a parts car. It is too far gone. _________________ 1970 Campmobile Click to view image

I saw a thread on STF several years ago where someone from the UK restored one that was that far gone.....but he had about three wrecks. He had plenty of fenders, hoods and doors and had whole chassis sections he welded in from wrecks that were further gone in other ways.
it must be noted that his plan, was never to make it normal again. It was to make it basically straight and acceptable to look at and drive but with a few wrinkles here and there was basically still a beater. Ray |

Its just metal. I am more concerned about replacing glass than anything.
I have built a few daily drivers from scrap pieces others would pass on. My current driver is a 69 baja with a 2.2 chevy ecotec, 6 rib weddle pro box, 4 wheel disks, 15 inches of clearence on air ride. Back half of the car is 64, front and pan 69, doors are 74.
Current project is a 1970ish Pontiac "GTO". Frame is a 70, front half and roof 71, back trunk area 68, with a 468ci stroker waiting under wraps.

Still. There's that yellow 4 door in Saskachewan that's been in the classifieds here forever. Make a 4 door sunroof 4 speed, that would be great. Search "4 door wagon" on this forum, there's a link to a nice welding project a fellow undertook. 4 door sunroof 4 speed wagon would be really great. |

okay Budnick!.....you are officially, worse than I am! You have the skill, tools and insanity to possibly actually make this car drive again.
If you look around....usable fenders, doors hoods and small, parts are available used. If you can derust the critical areas and if you dont neex entire body clips but can, weld in patches in critical areas to keep the chassis rigid and not affect outer body part fit......the rest can be done to at least get it to drive and look sane.
I will see if I can find the link to the back from the grave thread of the other type 4. Ray |

I have come to the decision that I have too many projects sitting around. I am opening the request line for parts off of the car, except for the motor and its required components for running. I will start advertising it in the classified section as well. If you are in need just let me know. _________________ If I can't fix it, it's broke. |

Hey if you decide to part it, I possibly would be interested in the windshield----depending on where you are. I noticed something interesting on that car. The tail light lenses look to be the same as on the sedans. I thought they were different on the Variants----a little narrower. Those are a good spare item, and I don't have any. Bob |

(Just a note in case anyone nearer isn't selling any.)
A local company, Kuttilan Autolasi (here in Finland) is making new windshields for 411/412 and have global delivery.
Glass itself isn't very expensive, around 200 euros, but I'm afraid the cost of the freight would be quite ridiculous. _________________ Kharon -- '62 typ1, '63 typ14, '61 typ21, '65 typ34, '74 412, '75 typ26
