My wife and I were leaving on a roadtrip to France on Monday.
No longer.
I stopped for a red light and a 19 year-old rear ended me
I hope this is salvageable... But I doubt it.
Btw. I'm fine a bump on my forehead and backhead :p and a headache
Geez I really hope this can be saved |

Wow, that's some really sad news...glad that you're OK though. Looks like quite a bit of wrinkled sheetmetal there. If that car is special, I'm sure it can be straightened out by a skilled body guy who knows these cars. Almost anything's possible, but it's gonna be costly. Was the kid using a mobile device? I was once t-boned by a guy blowing thru a stop sign while playing with his phone.
That really sucks, man...good luck with whatever you decide to do. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Yikes! What a shame. So glad you both came out relatively easy. Do you have shoulder belts and head rests in your Ghia? Did the 19-yr old even care or apologize? Did the police arrive soon after to give him/her a hefty ticket? |

So sorry hear about your loss. Your car was beautiful - love the silver.
I hope their insurance doesn't try to screw you and say the value is some kind of "KBB" value. |

Sorry for your loss
Glad you were not hurt too bad -- tomorrow will be worse, I know
Very Glad the police didn't have to respond to the murder of some punk kid
When talking to the insurance companies always remind them that all the parts are made by Porsche when they are writing the repair estimate -- and make sure to tell them you had the car sold to someone in the USA for $50,000 US and you were getting ready to ship it LOL _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,

Oh no!!! I've seen your restoration blog. So sorry to see this. Makes me cringe. Of course, it's great to hear you are ok. But how does one quantify to the insurance company how much time and love went into something like this? Hope things will work out as best as it possibly can in this situation.

Ahh, man, that’s terrible. So sorry to see/hear this...I’ve been watching your thread. The good news is that it sounds like you weren’t hurt too badly, Sounds cliché, and does not lessen the loss I know. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

My first reaction: Oh sh.............!!
Thankful you both came out ok but I think incidents like these highlight the fear we have whenever we bring out our prized possessions. Sure hope she can be saved....... I've followed threads where extensive fabrications have accomplished the almost impossible. What he said!
You practically performed a miracle with that Ghia once already - with lots of luck perhaps it can happen again.
I sure hope so! |

OMG!!
I am so sorry for your loss. I was relieved that you and your wife are ok.
This has always been my biggest fear, some inattentive moron ramming me at speed. I hope you and the Ghia find a way to recover from this. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

That's a huge fear for me as well - so happy to hear you are OK and hopefully its repairable. Do you have something else you can take on your roadtrip instead? _________________ RIP HBB (1984-2009)

Again glad every one is ok but man that is awful. Find a rear clip and a good body guy and she'll ride again I bet.
Good luck. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

how heartbreaking after all that work
ghias are replaceable though, as long as you and the wife are ok that's the important thing (I hope you got checked out properly whiplash/backinjuries can be nasty long term if untreated). Hope the insurance gets sorted out quickly and you can be back in a ghia soon even if it may not be yours, hopefully parts or the whole thing is salvageable- looks like a big impact . _________________ 1960 Beetle ''Heidi" daily driver
