I'm feeling a tick encouraged. I could not get rear deck lid open...
From what I can tell the headers yielded and took most of energy after the body crumpled.
I don't think the frame moved.
Not sure where the oil is coming from. Perhaps the valve cover pushed down by tin?
I'll get a closer look tomorrow. Inside and also hopefully I'll get rear deck lid open without further damage. |

Oh man . . . that sucks!
FWIW . . . the difference in what happened to you and what happened to me . . . Mine was hit JUST BEFORE going in for paint. Girl in a Mustang not paying attention and punched in the tail of my '68 while I was stopped at the red light.
I am VERY able to relate to your situation!
If I were you, I would look for a replacement deck lid to help get the surrounding panels back to correct . . . especially if you have a shop do the repair.
You do not want them to pull the body some and then repair the damaged deck lid to fit. A good deck lid will provide a gauge to determine the effectiveness and correctness of the pull.
Hopefully, insurance will shell-out for a complete re-spray.
here's mine after being straightened-out and painted . . . be encouraged that yours will be better!

I got rear ended yesterday in my 2013 Jetta... Young girl hit a guy behind me at a red light, he in turn smashed into me. It’s an epidemic! _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

She got out of the car holding a cell...so I can assume a-textin' she was. Had my two 14 month old kids in the back; we are all fine. Just pissed off at young texters. Sorry for the diversion, back to Dorian's thread. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

Sorry to hear about your beautiful Ghia. The IMPORTANT news is you're ok..
Two weeks ago I was driving my bus down the freeway in Phoenix. It was morning rush hour. A woman was in her car in front of me. The traffic opened up and we reached about 50 miles per hour. I was back from her quite a ways as I always do. Well the traffic rapidly slowed down in front of us. I watched in horror as the woman in front of me NEVER hit her brakes lights and plowed into the slowing car in front of her. She smashed that car, then ricocheted across all lanes of traffic, hiting two other vehicles in the process. She clipped a Jeep which flipped over several times before her car ended up smashing into the side of a concrete embankment.
No doubt in my mind she was staring at her cell phone and NOT paying attention to actually driving her car. We as a country need to get MUCH more aggressive in banning the use of cell phones and texting while driving down the road. Too many innocent folks are dying as a result of this. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Using a mobile in the car had been illegal here in the UK for quite sometime.
I was horrified the last time I drove in the states to find it is legal over there, so dangerous! |

Glad to here that it can be repaired.
As for the texting and phone use, it is also illegal here in California....not that anyone pays attention to that law. _________________ Chuck in Socal

Maybe losing a digit each time your caught might be a deterrence?
It would be tougher to text.
