Here is a picture along with a description to get you started in the right direction. I was curious if it could be done so I did some experimenting. It is a little harder than using mig,the results take longer and are not as good looking as mig but it can be done.
Green Area: Zero gap series of tack welds.
Yellow Area: Gap welded 21 gauge. First deposit a little metal to build it up and then do your tack weld. Keep wire directly in between both pieces.
Red Area: Done the same way as with mig and a huge gap where you start your weld on the last weld. Flux has to be brushed off every time. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. I have the yellow beetle in my town. There is a red one, a green one ......
Use all safety devices including a mask. |

I am using a flux core machine for my big and as long as your not making a show piece it's fine. Yes it's a little more work but it does work. There are a couple areas that people will actually see but those areas will be painted anyway so it's just how you clean up the welds. |
