The 70 ghia I bought had drop spindles put on it and I'm looking to bring it back to the original height. It also has no pads left on the brakes and lots of grooves in the rotors.........

So, I'm looking to replace the front beam and get new disc brakes for it. Question is, should I stick with the 4 lug or convert to 5 lug? Also, does anyone know of a good deal that will include the beam and brake set......basically a whole new front end?

TIA.

You don't need a new beam. Just replace the dropped spindles/brakes with stock ones. Someone on here will probably offer to trade straight across.

yep, if it's lowered disk spindals I'd trade you strait across for my stock disk brake spindals off my 72. I'll even pay for shipping!

Hi. While you have the front end apart, check the ball joints for needed work. The rotors are all the same for the 67-74. Three different styles of calipers. Service wheel bearings. Inspect tie rod ends. Possible rubber brake hoses. A possible advantage is the different calipers fit all the oem spindles.
Hope this helps, Bill.

why would you want to change the lug pattern from stock 4 to wide 5? (other than being able to run early steelies or other wide 5 rims)

First, thanks to all for the replies. Couple of things:

Found out that the beam is fine and the spindles are stock. Anyway, I'm just going to replace it with the stock brake kit and keep the 4 lug wheels. I wanted to go to the wide 5 to have more options for rims but I think I'm just going to keep it stock for now.

I haven't been able to find a definite answer on the 4 to 5 lug question. Can I simply replace my 4 lug rotors/drums with 5 lug? I'm getting ready to replace them anyway so might as well get what I want.

I like the rim options that come with the wide 5 lug pattern.

Wide 5 and front ghia rotor isnt going to work. You are going to have to research ball joint, wide 5, disc.

There are other options, 5- lug porsche pattern opens up the availability of a lot of nice, quality rim choices...and its cheaper. You can do the smaller 5-lug with ghia rotors and some drums can also be drilled/tapped/studded.

Do they make a Porsche pattern 5 lug rotor that would fit my current setup? Those are the exact rims that I want.

Yes, they make front rotors for your car that are drilled 5 X 130 mm (Note: Ghia is a Type I)

...or...

And you will want matching drums for the rear...

If you can find them for less than $1000 each...jump on them. Cool
