|
|
Finally started my 25hp, after some messing about she ran pretty well for first start up.
Got some very worrying fuel leaks;
1. Can seems to get the new copper pipe to seal into carb or even pump, reverted to putting old one on, whats process to get the brass shim to seal or flare ?
2. Carb also leaking from accelerator linkage, any ideas of cause and fix ?

Carb leak is indicative of float bowl overflowing. Watch this - it can fill a cylinder and hydraulic with bad results. My 47 has done this a couple of times over the years - in my case the float hangs up and a tap on the carb makes it go away. You may need a new float valve.
If you think you have the compression fittings tight enough then I have resorted to a couple of wraps of Teflon tape to get the last drip. Perhaps there are different profiles of compression fitting? |

The original lines are copper plated steel, not copper. They have been reproduced in copper by a variety of sources. I had copper lines on my own split, and it leaked in the same spot no matter what I did. I also ended up putting the original line back on my 25hp, and it fixed the problem instantly. Don't mess around with the copper stuff, it's not worth risking your car.
Try these:

I have not purchased these, but everything else I have bought from Virtanen has been top notch.

Thanks Guys, good advice, the feed pipe was from Mika which was ace and fitted first time, the pipe to carb is from Kaefer can't seem to get it to seal with compression fixings.
Think will invest in carb overhaul to make sure all ok. |

Put new pipe ferrles on the fuelline. Once they seat they dont move. They need to be reseated in the proper postion inside carb and fuel pump.
I had that problem when I switch carbs and this worked.
Your carb is flooding out. Clean needle valve by soaking in vinger over night.that should free it up. If not change it.make sure you use a solex neele valve. The Chinese ones dont work. Also check float height when reinstalled |

Also regarding the solid copper lines. It work hardens with vibration and can fracture accordingly. Its been banned for brake lines in NZ for years because of this. No need to contemplate a broken fuel line spraying fuel over the engine. (copper plated steel as per the factory is good) |

I did already purchase these fuel lines from Mika Virtanen and they are top notch regarding appearance and fitment and they did not leak any drop right from the beginning. I can only recommend those.
