I'm going to both hopefully...I've read some good comments and some dumb one's because some folks like drama but in the end of the day it's just a car show and it's not that serious! |
I'm going for the first time this year. Is it actually possible to go get to both shows? |
Yes it is |

I had a booth last year at the Classic and had pretty good traffic all day. But the 2 hour line to get in and driving in with a truck and trailer after 8:30 was a major pain in the a$$. Me being a vendor had to use the same entrance as the show participants and that didn't work out.
So this year will have a booth at Prado, not only is it cheaper, but more laid back.
Maybe next year if they are on separate days, I will show at both. _________________ Mario De Leon

Your Fasty looked good as you passed us last Sunday on the way to Bug-In. We were the caravan getting on the 10 freeway from the 57.
See you at El Prado |

New to the whole scene but have been to the Classic the last two years and once back when it was the Jamboree. Haven't camped at Blackstar or attended the Prado show, but would really like to see them on separate weekends to have the chance to hang with all the different folks who attend these events. The more events the better, especially for a newbie like myself just wanting to soak up all of the information and VW's that I can. |

I went to Prado last year. The swap meet section was much smaller than at The Classic. If you are interested in the swap meet I would go to The Classic first. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

Prado sounds like fun, but that's why I'm buying/selling at the Classic. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

I honestly wish they would of done the shows on different weekends. I would of like to have gone to both, but I drove my Ghia and it just didn't seem practical to go to Classic and then to Prado. For what its worth Classic was very well organized except for when I was trying to park and the guy tried to put me next to a bunch of watercooled cars that were fucking buckets. He just told me that we we all VW's. I told I guess so and drove around to go park with the air. I didn't have any problem rolling right in at 800am and it took about 5 minutes to find a place to park.
I had a good time and I hope the two shows can find the wisdom to put their events on different weekends next time. It just seems childish to put both on the same weekend just to prove a point all it will do is weaken both shows. _________________ Jason

I understand why Prado exists (and I am no fan of the Bugorama folks), but doing both shows on the same day in the same general area is bullshit. The ACVW hobby is not increasing in popularity, dividing us up is not helping our cause.
I really hope to see joined forces in the coming years as I am a fan of both events for different reasons. I get the feeling that both organizers are probably too stubborn to make that a reality though. |
100% TRUE!!!! Both promoters are in a pissing contest and neither will budge. Ever.
One of them should pick the Saturday before OCTO. Because the Sunday before OCTO is almost always the Pomona Swap Meet (HUGE international draw). Then the "out-of-towners" can experience TWO FULL WEEKENDS of badass shows....
It's too bad that pride, ego, and desire to maximize profit will NEVER allow this to happen. |

I went to Prado this year because it was closer to my house and I had to arrive late so didn't want to drive all the way to Costa Mesa, but I thought last year's classic was great, and this year's Prado show was really cool.
being able to enjoy both with my family would be even better. |

Ive been going to the Classic for more than 20 years, last year was the worst.
This year I tried the Prado show and as long as it is happening I will NEVER go to the Classic again! I think its good that they are on the same day that way the clicky ego types will be with their greedy promoter friends and the laid back family types will be having a friendly show where all are welcome.
Next year I will definitely camp out and enjoy a show that is what it was like back in the day, affordable with good people getting together appreciating each others rides without being looked down upon by "players" with $50K+ in their trailer queens.
I think bug o rama should stay where they are the only thing in town that is the only way people will tolerate the expense and attitude. |

You obviously aren't a sponsor with Bugorama Production..........because you didn't get your free tickets to The Classic. I actually feel bad for the sponsors who were obligated to be there, but without them and all the free tickets they passed out, The Classic would have been a ghost town. _________________ "What a fool believes he sees, no wise man has the power to reason away." I kept hearing different stories from people yesterday that it was kinda empty and "No, it was a pretty good turn out"....just curious to know real story. |

Hmm.... don't know or want to participate in the politics, but we came down from Canada and attended both the Classic and EL Prado. Both were really great, and seemed to cater to different markets, but great none the less. For visitors coming to town, for sure having them on bookend weekends would allow us to do one, stay the week and support local parts shops, then hit the following weekend for the other. I heard someone saying at one event that the other didn't have XXX... i jumped in and said I had just came from the other event and that wasn't the case. If possible, there needs to be a show for the folks and for the "trailer queens" as someone put it. Neither are any less impressive or lacking in effort by the owners. Thanks to all the attendees and sponsors for a great weekend! Just a visitors perspective. |

I went to both last year as well and classic was crazy last year.
Went to classic this year. A lot more orginzed getting in. I stiill think parking could be better. if you see the the the pics they did a row of cars then another row right behind them. so one row shows the front of the cars and the next shows the back of them. I said im not parking like that and backed in. Haha everyone after me did the same thing in my row. It was more mellow and the swap meet was pretty good. My buddy scored NOS set of over rider bumpers (towel rails) for his notch.
I would say car count was definately down from last uyear but still good turn out. I think peopel did bail and go to prado though. by noon there empty spots in the show area.
Over all we had good time and i'm on the fence where we will go next year.
I think if classic were to put the vendors or trailer queen cars in the buildings like back in the day that would free up grass area for cars to park on. that would make big difference. |

I went to Prado and had a great time. That being said, the Classic and Prado should equally be supported and having them the same day doesn't allow that to happen. Take the egos and politics out and it can happen to the benefit of the the vendors, the promoters and most importantly to the VW owners and fans. I could see this as a viable solution:
Friday: Car club cruise night/poker run/dealership takeover
Saturday: The Classic
Sunday: Pomona Swap
Monday: Car club cruise night/poker run/dealership takeover
Tuesday: VW shops/vendors open house
Wednesday: Blackstar Campout begins/Car club cruise night
Thursday: VW shops/vendors open house
Friday: Car club cruise night/poker run/dealership takeover
Saturday: OCTO
Sunday: Prado Show & Shine
There seems to be three to four large VW clubs in So Cal that each could host a cruise night. Maybe rotate the nights every year so each club gets to host on a Friday night every other year. Just a few ideas. |

Just to throw another log on the fire -- -- I went to FASTIVUS at the California Speedway on Saturday -- -- My God what a great event -- -- Sure it was mainly a water cooled event, but 3 or the top 5 winners in the car show were aircooled -- there was some serious love for the aircooled cars there
-- the autocross was off the charts AND you could also enter to road race too -- -- This was defiantly not a static display event, always something going on -- -- Did I say I really liked it???? Tanner Foust was there drifting his Passat !!! over 1600 entrants
http://www.fastivus.com/what-is-fastivus
AND they had a raffle which everyone driving a VW was GIVEN a ticket to with over $54000 in prizes -- --
Now if I could keep all these damn kids from having all these graduation parties so I could stay somewhere all damn day I would be a lot happier _________________ Remember, as you travel the highway of life,
