Hi all ,

first time poster and any info would be greatly received...

So i found a 76' panel van in good condition not far from where i live in greece and was arranging to purchase , in order to do so i had to go to a government office to collect the papers on behalf of the owner.. on arrival and after looking on the system they said that because the car had been declared de-rgistered for over the one year period (5years) and it couldnt be driven again on greek soil and their words not mine was 'dead !'...

If i imported it to the UK (on lorry) could i resurect this from the "dead" in the normal import process with effectively no valid paperwork ???.. i've been reading about V55/5 papers is this the right avenue to explore ?

Thanks again ,

Sounds like something to ask the gov't people that actually do the registrations. Remember to pitch it right: "How do I?" not "Can I?"

That's crazy...I've never heard of "de-register"ing a car. As far as I know, the title and registration are alive forever, you just don't get plates/pay fees/taxes to actually drive it if it's not in use. some states may have inspection requirements to re-plate it but no declaring it "dead"

thanks for the reply,

having spoken to a few friends in broken greek and thought about the situation i think the ultimate question is can you pay back tax on an unregistered vehicle in greece???.... i'm sure the answer is yes but greece is a cruel mistress for bureaucracy and if not can i import to the uk without registration papers , the bureaucratic adventure continues....i'm sure numerous people have found buzz word "barn finds" and got them resurrected back to road use...

sounds like a strange situation where i doubt you will ever actually get any greek paperwork that will convince your UK DVLA and customs men.

if you're serious about trucking so far then you could consider my 1975 panel van, swiss papers in my name and it is rhd. Wink
