So here's an interesting bunch of questions, but to start off I'm not exactly looking restore my car but I want to fix up as much as I can do so it has less chance of dieing on me could you guys give me a big list of everything that either goes wrong in an older car and or what I should be looking at checking/fixing. I have no experience with cars but I'm hoping repairing my car will enlighten me 👍 thanks! |

The biggest issue I had with my 1980 Rabbit was water leaking around the windshield onto the fuse box causing constant electrical problems. _________________ 1985 Diesel Jetta Coupe (temporarily retired at

I thought maybe it was Diesel, then I could give you something's to consider. Since its gasoline there isn't much I could tell you, just like any car keep it serviced regularly and watch for salt caused rust if it isn't already rusted. _________________ Currently own : 1969 Beetle w/ 1600cc, Single Port, Solex 30 PICT 2, Dist. 113 905 205 T, stock exhaust.

The other issue with the Fuse box was very underrated design, so even without leaks they still went bad.
The 1.6 motor with FI is/was a good motor, oil temp was hot, and later 1.8 motors got oil coolers.
As long as you change the oil and keep up on service they are good cars.
Now, 35 years later, all the ones with electrical demons have been crushed. _________________ Good Luck
