Thanks allwagons. I love your square. My only regret is not finding a 68 with factory sumroof! Any way, hot off the press. Hood is all color sanded and buffed out. Guy thought he was funny. I will post a tun of pucks as I re-asemble.

I don't even know where to begin. I think im just going to put it in the corner of the garage and try to forget about it! I expected way more then I got. Ok now that im done crying The car is home from paint and there are the same issues I was concerned with when I took it into paint. The paint actually looks good but my gaps are exactly the same as when I took it in. I picked it apart in front of the owner of the shop and although he wasn't happy I got him to take almost 2 grand off the price. After 8 months I wasn't going to leave it there any longer! I started this mornimg with a good attatude thinking I would pull rear quorter and work on the gap between drivers door and rear quorter and quickly realized the bottom 2 bolts that held quorter to rocker had been broke off and now are welded! Do I just put it togethere and try and overlook its imperfections or do I stop hear and do what i can to fix them. Any comets are appreciated. |

Stop.
Look the car over and let us know how many bolts are welded and get pictures of them. Then, we can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, work the anger and anxiety out of your system because while it's understandable, it's also just counterproductive.
From there we go. You can adjust, shim, etc. and I'm confident you'll get everything even but just be aware that there is more tweaking to be done after beading and seals.
Let us know on the welding and other needless "repairs" and get a roll or 2 of painter's tape to mask edges of panels and I will walk you through it hopefully with some input from Bob. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

All the gaps is something that can be worked out. It's a very time consuming project in itself, but can be done. As Tram said, work and get past the frustration cause it will cause you to get more upset at the situation and get "demotivated" in the project. _________________ 1971 Squareback, fully bagged, 1776.

I would love some advice on lining up gaps! I fooled with the back hatch and it is way better now. I can't thank you guys enough for your encouraging words. I was in a bad place this morning when i posted. Paint shop in my eyes did not deliver what I was expecting I think I was just expecting way more then I got. Well I'm over that now and continued putting what I could togethere. Spent about 5 hrs and the motor, dash and trunk are put togethere. Picks to com. |

I do have a spare EFI motor but we are putting in Ryan's square. If he don't get off his but and start working on his car then I will put the EFI in my square. |

I agree completely. Get us some pics of the welded bolts, and BS like that. Show us where they are, so we can help formulate a plan to help you fix them.
I guess the body shop didn't think you'd notice that they did the welding. I'm glad they knocked some off the price, but having to fix their screw up does take away some of the motivation, especially since you were excited to start putting it back together. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I finaly looked over the whole car and the 2 bolts on the drivers rear quorter that bolt it to the rocker are the only 2 spots on the whole car that have been welded. I feel better and with your guys help i feel I can get the gaps correct. Today when I get home from work I will fire her up.

Theis are the worst gaps now. I worked on the rear hatch yesterday and I'm happy with that now.

Show us what the hood gap looks like on the other side and what the door gap looks like at the rear of the door. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Drivers door. I thing if I could get the, rear fender loose I could just move everything fwd in clouding the door to Line up the front gap but as I mentioned it's welded you can even see ow far off it is by looking at the huge gap between rear quorter and rocker.

This is a great example of "do it yourself" or else. Hate to be negative, but turning your stuff over to others "is stressful" and real aggravating if done below expectations.
Sorry about your trouble Friend. ... stay frosty

Thanks gentlemen I appreciate the knoladge and words of encouragement. Since I can't do much with the gaps right now I have moved on to color sanding and buffing my new paint. Since I refuse to give the paint shop any more of my money and have decided to learn the body work and paint peocess myself for future restorations I figured I might as well start with the color sanding and buffing of my new paint. Although the orange peal and dust nibs are minimal nun the less they are there. so today I dove right in I started with the top of the drivers front fender. I hit it with 2000 sand paper wet with soppy watter. Let me tell you sanding my new paint job was nervracking I sanded till all the orange peal was gone. After the 2000 I then hit it with,2500 after that it was buffed with a compound then with a polish and a difrent pad. For not ever doing this befor and only reeding the thred hear on the samba it turned out really sweet. I had time to sand the hood but didnt get a chance to hit it with the buffer yet. I have to say I'm happy with the results so far. I thought the paint looked good befor but now it looks incredible. |
