Hello everyone, I recently acquired a two owner (original owner & son-in-law) 1970 beetle that I purchased for a friend who fell through on the deal. After threatening to cut it up if he didn't liberate from me, I had to follow through when he didn't pick it up in a timely manner. |

That is a clean car. Keep It stock. If it was beat up I would say sure, hack it into a baja, but I like it as an 11 car. Just sayin. _________________ HBB took me to BBV. |

But that didn't feel like living up to the threat of cutting it up.

Thanks for all the input, while it shows really well in the pictures, it was a good enough paint job to preserve what was left. It had been sitting for 4 years in that spot & has been off the road since 04. It'll need the usual floor pans & the headlight buckets were rusted out as is the rear parcel tray floor.

To gain more clearance between the fenders & tires I first started at the rear by re-clocking the torsion bars & to increase the downward motion of the rear suspension I notched the spring plates.

With its new exhaust also. I decided to keep it simple at first & keep the original engine so I rebuilt the carb, installed a pertronix breakerless ignition & a quick tune-up. |

Most of these modifications are ideas I've gotten from lurking around the HBB forums & I'm trying to employ as many as I can to keep this build as inexpensive as possible but still end up with a fun car. I hope some of the new to the scene crowd can see this & realize that it can be done without spending the big bucks that have gone into most of these newer builds. |

Here's the 100mm axle upgrade, I sourced a set of used axles & stubs from a Porsche 924 off Craigslist for $100. |

After some research I found some bilsteins that were about 1-1/2 longer & had about 1/2" longer travel from a chrysler town&country that had the same bolt diameter (also good to use on those VW rabbit truck rears. |
