Excellent. Benny's rival Artie Shaw was no slouch either, and makes for good shop tunes. Tram and Bix are excellent as well.

Most likely Bid Beiderbecke & Frank "Tram" Trumbauer. Really digging deep into the golden age of jazz with those, just need to toss in Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti.

If y'all haven't seen it yet, the documentary Keep On Keepin On, is def worth checking out. It's a documentary about trumpeter Clark Terry and an up and coming jazz pianist ( Justin..?forget the name). Lots of great jazz history and commentary from some of the greats. Just watched it on Netflix a few days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yup, that would be the Tram and Bix I refer to.

Venuti and Lang... those are some forgotten pioneers. Everyone gushes over Django and Grapelly but Joe and Eddie were doing it 10- 15 years earlier.

A bit of a diversion, but Lang's blues duets as Blind Willie with Lonnie Johnson are amazing. Actually have a couple of them on the original 78s that I will on rare occasion crank up my external horn Victor and give a listen to. Back to Bix & Tram from wiki "On February 4, 1927, Lang featured in the recording of "Singin' the Blues" by Frankie Trumbauer and His Orchestra featuring Bix Beiderbecke on cornet. Lang traded guitar licks while Beiderbecke soloed on cornet, in a landmark jazz recording of the 1920s" Great stuff indeed and it is clear (I think they acknowledged it also) where Django & Grappelli got their inspiration from.

Howdy, Thanks , you guys are a treasure trove of lore and history. My son and I will be checking out these legendary artists. P. S. What about Stan Kenton ? His stuff is pretty enjoyable.

If you want a little modern swing ... Check into The Brian Setzer Orchestra.
Im a Setzer fan from day #1.
His orchestra led by his perfect guitair skills influenced from his own Rockabilly group The Stray Cats. Good old swing with a killler guitar.... there is is nothing like it that can compare.

I pretty much built my Volksrod and my Pops 51 Merc with nothing more than BSO and good Rock-a-billy thumping on the shop stereo... music that truly inspired and influenced the projects...

Setzer is too much show and not enough juice. I'd have to say Artie had a stronger band than Benny's...

Tram, do you ever listen to anything modern?
