I picked up a 61 bug about 2 years ago. It has been sitting in line behind several other vw's my son has decided he wants to role it this summer.

this is how I found it:

there was lots of parts missing. the floors need replaced.
front end needs replaced. needs new wiring harness. and so on ..

First step is to remove body from pan.

we removed the pans

first we removed the back support piece off of the new pans

So . . . once upon a time, somebody put it on a frame rack and ripped that poor bug. You'd think that maybe they could have welded it back together before sending it on it's way!

I was struggling with why there was rips on both sides like that. that makes perfect since .

Ambitious! Great that you found it and are reviving it. Is the black cat yours, or the PO's?

The front fenders actually appear decent apart from the surface rust. Do you just want to find better OG ones which have the blinker openings still there?

This might be a bit premature, but have you thought about what wheels and bolt patterns? 4-bolts all around, or 5-bolts?

We are keeping the same paint buff it it out,repair the rust and damage paint
the new nose and inside the front area.
It will be my son's summer car

as for rims I'm going back to wide 5 not sure what..

the nose we just fitted is way to damaged on the passenger side. I have a better nose that we will fit this week.

Also to save time we are talking about using a different pan this summer that my son has done for a 59 project he has been working on .

nose is on .. drivers side is done, passenger side needs more welding and 4 holes used for a gas heater .

I specially like the easy fill brake reservoir on the replacement clip, no fussy cap to deal with!!!!!!!

after patching 4 big holes for a gas heater and welding up tons of rips

I buffed out half of the hood. I should look good .

I need to match the white for the finders and the nose.
I was told it is corvette white this is 88 corvette white and corvette classic white. I am planning on taking the car to the paint store to match the color

color matched the white.
replaced the wiring harness. the turn signal switch.
installed the pedals a different gas tank . installed the interior.
fired up the engine and adjusted the brakes and clutch.
