|
|
I purchased a 1967 bus, lowered, IRS rear suspension and the rear shocks are cutting into and CV joint boots. It appears that who ever did the install of the rear IRS (lowered) suspension did something wrong. Would you be so kind as to advise on what I need to do to fix my problem? please see pictures below. Thank you in advance for helping me out

relocate that shock absorber top mount more forward? Not too familiar wth what type of control arms do that but Id say easiest way would be to move the metal top mount twards the front.
Is the tire centered in the wheel well front to back? _________________ Waiting for santa to drop off funky green. I can wish can't I???? |

Do all conversations (rear swing axle to IRS) need the top shock mount moved forward? |

It looks like that top shock mount has already been moved once. Definately not in the right place. Cut the welds and move it to where it looks good/should be.
Typically not a problem with the top mount being in the way of the axle. |

I can't believe whoever lowered that thing left them like that. I'd go through everything to see what else they rushed. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

I experimented on mine by cutting away the outer casing of an old shock so it wouldnt touch. You can purchase a shock w/o the casing, having said that it still looks like the shock is at a sever angle.
I will end up repositioning the upper shock mount on my IRS conversion. |

It's not hard to fab a new mount closer to the frame and get the shock straight |

I like KYB Gas-Adjust for the rear. They handle the weight of the bus well. |

Take a look at the severe shock angle in this pix....seems to me that the upper shock mount should be located just below the frame rather than to the side as it is in the pix. This means you need a real short shock that still has the necessary range.....the major shock manf usually have all their shock dimensions listed its just a matter of scrolling thru their online PDF catalogs. I have the same problem to resolve as soon as I finish my rear disc brake conversion. Monroe shocks list max height and compression as well as what type upper/lower mount. |
