Has anybody seen a spoon with what appears to be the 1938 groundbreaking ceremony logo with the swastika cog logo and a beetle under it? The back is marked gowe silber 60. The only thing I could find was gowe was in business until 1945. Any info would be appreciated!

If this is the logo (borrowed from the gallery):
It is the most-reproduced 1938 item out there. Get a picture of your spoon up here for the experts to identify. They are most often on pins. You'll find them stuck to everything on fleabay. _________________

Is it engraved, or raised?
I am going to guess engraved at this stage.
If it is engraved, you would imagine that the inside the engraved lines it would be tarnished after all these years. Look at the vertical line at the rear of the door.....it looks too clean to be old.

It is engraved , I just bought it yesterday, as for the patina, for all I know it could have been cleaned fifty times over the years. I didn't know there was a swastika in the cog until I got home and put my glasses on I thought it was a vw logo. It was not sold to me as anything but a spoon with a beetle on it.So for somebody to find era correct German silverware then engrave it and then to sell it for what it's worth in scrap silver is unlikely. It is not for sale, just something for my vw collection whether it is real or not. Just looking for info, good or bad, and whether anybody ever found anything similarly marked other than the reproduction pins. Thank you for any info |

No disrespect intended, but it sounds like your mind is already made up on what it is.
Others might chime in here to tell you what you want to hear......or not.
Bottom line is, if you are happy with it, that is great. Enjoy it. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

No disrespect taken, my mind is not made up yet, I didn't know if that logo was used for a few years until they put the vw in the cog. I just thought it would be a neat piece of history to share if it is something from early vw development. |

IMHO . . . I think the spoon is old and original and the KdF Wagen engraving has been added later _________________ Hacksaw BoB

I think it's fake too. There's so much tarnishing by the lip around the perimeter of the handle, and in the Gowe marking. Why not in the kdf logo?
If you like it, get it. Enjoy it in your collection. Then if you decide to sell it, I wouldn't call it authentic. _________________

I have no idea if your piece is original or fake. I suspect fake as well. There's so much fake stuff out there that I wouldn't pay big bucks for anything unless it could be proven somehow original. Ebay is filled with all kinds of fakes : badges, pins, army helmets, knives, cigarette cases, match cases, compasses, old wooden boxes etc all with VW and kdf logos on them. _________________ My Beetles :

If you just bought it- revisit the antique dealer again in a week, with your spoon in your pocket. If it's fake, he'll have another super rare kdf spoon placed on the same shelf.
