Hi
I just need a little help with a gearbox I bought the stamp on it is around Dec 53 but I'm not sure if it's a recon box it has at the end of the stamp another stamp extremely small what looks like M543 upside down I think any help thank

The box halves are from August 11th, resp. 21st 1953

absolutely right. the small 4 digit number (upside down) also ending with 3, indicating 1953. I think not reconditioned. there are no signs of the old number having been ground off. the 4 digit # is 1**3, not M***. that absolutely looks like a production number would be stamped on a 2A ( 2-4 synchro) box !
