I have just purchased a March 54 11 window. The previous owner has removed many coats of house paint to reveal dove blue. In doing so + having repair done in many areas it's down to steel. I plan on blowing in some dove blue then skuff to blend however I can't tell what colour undercoat was used maybe grey but not sure. My 59 panel has a red primer under the blue. Does anyone know what colour primer would have been used it was a NZ delivered bus

Hi Charlie, congratulations on purchasing what looks like ian68's old NZ barndoor.

I'm sure it has been determined that, that was one of the first shipment of busses into NZ and as such arrived assembled, so the primer would be the German applied product as opposed to the later local assembled ones which used local sourced paint products.

Wolfsburg classics has a database of New Zealand barndoors and may be able to supply you more info on your new barny.

Keep up with pics and progress, it would be great to see it back on the road.

Cheers Tedz

Thanks tedz
Yes this was Ian's bus. Only just pickup over the weekend been waiting 3 months for all the metal work to be finished. So I'm very happy to finally have it. This is my first Barny so very different to my other buses so I will more than likely asking many silly questions. Bus came with all metal work done and what looks like all the main parts to be put back to life.
Cheers
