Yep, that is a restoration kit. Certainly not a car to keep as is. For the right price it would be a good car to start with.
The heater boxes are later but the shoeboxes look correct other than the missing cross linkage for the flaps. _________________ Chris

Hard to know what to expect at auction, there is almost nothing to compare it to, and timing is everything. I foresee no lower than 50K even if few show up. Despite its shortcomings, its all about the serial number. Plenty of very deep pockets out there where the money almost doesnt' matter. |

The trouble with this type of Auction house, is that prices and expectations are built on hype, where accuracy and detail play 2nd fiddle to the truth. As somebody pointed out, there are still a lot of people out there with serious money to spend.
Let's face it. Any genuine 1945/6/7 car is going to fetch a premium these days. I can think of two such cars that have sold for in excess of $100K recently, and so half that amount for a car with a solid body, with matching numbers, and a high degree of originality, that sort of figure should be achievable any day of the week.
Items such as lights, correct seat material, etc, can be obtained afterwards, but it's the finding of such a car, and especially with solid bodywork, that is the hard thing to locate. This car seems to be a good basis for bringing back to original condition. I suggest that whoever buys it, will have enough money to both purchase & restore the car. |

The car was bright red at some point. You can see spots where the green paint had chipped off and you can see a long line of red on the left hand side where the engine compartment rubber gasket channel is. You can also see a lot of the same red behind the dash. I have a book from probably 20 years ago that has a bright red '46 in it. I wonder if this is the same car. |
Maybe the car that you saw in a book was our '46 which was bright red in the early 1960s. I have a couple of pictures from a previous owner showing 1-063289 in red and it was that colour when we bought it in the mid 1970s. _________________ Rod,

The auction is actually starting at 12:30 pm Sunday, and the '46 is about 60 or so cars into the lot, so it will be later in the day before it comes up. I will attend, am registered and assigned a bidding "paddle", but likely will not bid on the car competitively. I would love to have that car, but I am not hot for it. I also have some new insight on the recent history of the car, and potential bidders, but I'll keep that close to the vest at this point.
I am really going to just to experience a concours auction thing, looking forward to it... _________________ John Henry

Highly recommended! It's an eye popping experience, would be cool to see a VW in the mix. I saw a couple camper buses go for six figure sums at Gooding Pebble Beach last year, a whole other world. _________________ 1967 Squareback |

History that may affect the bidding action.
There are some cars in the catalog that are estimated to sell around $750k. _________________ John Henry

Belonged to Porsche himself? We look forward to your report on proceedings, and if you manage to buy it for $12K, then there will be a lot of people committing Hari-Kari! |

No, I mean more about the recent history, local ownership, etc. It's going to be fun to watch and I'll get some pics and report back... _________________ John Henry

It would appear Wayne Carini has some involvement with the car at some level. Have a good time JohnsHenry and report back how it went when you can! |
