Hi All-

While I have 911 service/ overhaul experience in the past, I'm trying to help a good friend of mine overseas source parts for his USA spec 1969 911T and I have some questions about parts fitment.

First- he's having me look for a VDM wooden wheel and horn button, and is also interested in rosewood dash trim- but most of the suppliers show fitment up to 1968 on these.

Even though they are incorrect for the year- my question is- will they fit?

Thanks in advance and I'll likely have even stupider questions as time goes on. Laughing

Hello all,
how`s it going? I`m looking to find someone who knows about the lugs I
need to install my original 914 2L wheels on my `71 VW bug convertible. I
saw a seller some time ago that had the application I needed at a reasonable
price, but made the mistake of not purchasing them then, and now I don`t
see that seller under the VW wheels/tires section. Anyone can help me with
those lugs as how to find them or that seller again?

Sierra Madre is selling a reproduction wood wheel. I think it is a 420mm wheel and not a 400mm. They also have horn buttons. They should all fit. They may also have a reproduction wood dash. I know a guy had a supposed original wood dash for sale awhile back on the Early 911S Registry.

Sierra Madre says that their wood dash and wood wheel is for 65-68 cars and the one in question is a '69. This gels with all the offerings on eBay and elsewhere, hence my question.

I'm guessing that there were possibly mechanical changes to the dash and steering column beginning with 1969 cars that make the match of -68 parts to a 1969 impossible but I haven't been able to find this out for certain.

Shouldn't be any difference in the wheel because you can put a later smaller wheel in an early car.
The '69 dash trim may differ depending on the radio cutout. the ash tray and knob arrangement.

Hey, you're in Eugene? Cool, I'm in Thurston (Springfield).

OK, so there's no hub spline difference or anything early to late?

Great- that's good to know. Many thanks. I'm thinking for the dash I will need to get him the '69- on aluminum facings and custom veneer/ clear coat them as up- close photos of these kits show quite a different dash configuration.

Splines are the same, but the wheels and horn buttons don't interchange. In 69 the horn button changes(fat padded wings) and the angle of the dish in the wheel changed. You could put a wood wheel with a hockey puck horn button(no wings) or a early butterfly button(thin wings) on the wood wheel.

So if we go with an early wheel we need the horn button to match the wheel, correct?

Any interference with stalk mounted controls going with a pre '68 wheel on a '69?

SWB wheels, whether wood, plastic, or leather-wrapped rubber all have the same dish profile. The smaller 400 and 380mm wheels fit you will just need the proper horn pad to go with them.

Yep. Early wheel gets early style horn button.
The back of the steering wheels are all the same as far as I know and shouldn't be effected by the turn signal stalk.

Next stupid question: Will a 1968 and earlier SWB one piece lower dash knee pad fit in place of the LWB right and left knee pads with center ashtray? Seems like it should but again I am not an expert and Mr. Googleheim is keeping secrets from me.
