Hello
I'll be moving to Geneva in July and hope to bring my UK registered 1977 late bay camper with me.
Was wondering if anyone could give any help or advice on how to import it in to the country.
Thanks in advance

let's hope it's lhd and you've had it registered in your name for at least 6 months by the time you move.
oh, and zero rust is tolerated here by the way.

we'll see, you might be surprised at what they don't like ,.they can soon make rust visible here with their little maxwells..........
oh, and not the slightest tiniest oil spot or a mocroscopic leak in the exhaust is allowed either.
since it'll count as household effects ,apart from lhd headlights( no sealed beams allowed) you MIGHT be good to go, but of course if it's a US injection engine it could get complicated.
and aftermarket wheels and exhausts are going to need certifiying as well. |

Its on twin carbs.
I don't think I've an exhaust leak. But i do have a vintage speed exhaust on her. And it leaks oil. But don't they all _________________ 77 Sage Green Westy |

they don't leak olil when you take it to inspection here, ya better believe that!
do yerself a favour and fit a standard exhaust before ye get here. you also need to have working heat exchangers.............
hopefully standard solex carbs and airfilter? your 1977 is liable for emissions test once a year , there is NO tolerance if it's not correct.
if your engine number on the fan shroud is GE or something exotic then wave a magic wand and transform it into CJ, this is the only bay 2 litre engine that was actually marketed in switzerland and consequently an emissions document is avaialble from AMAG for it.
oh, and they don't like adjustable front axles and JK or other mickey mouse towhitches.
hope yer new job is paying plenty. |

sorry, but that's reality in this country. so many people bring their vehicles with them here full of optimism and it doesn't always work out.
you could always bring it over and try to get it swissified, at the worst you'd have to take it back to the UK and flog it.
a good street legal ready to go bay westy is going to cost you at least £20 grand here if you can find one, lesser models ain't cheap either. |

I appreciate the information and the honesty.
The van is solid. The engine has twin Kadron carbs (which is probably a problem from what you've told me)
The heat exchangers are there but i've never bothered connect them up I guess I could try and get them sorted.
I'll have to check out the engine code.
I'm annoyed that my stainless steel exhaust isn't good enough for the swiss thou. _________________ 77 Sage Green Westy |

you could be considering yourself lucky that the bus in your case will count as household effects, otherwise you would need to do a drive by exhaust noise check at a cost of a few £grand as well.............. |
