|
|
Just wanted to share what i've been working on for the last 3 years. Its a hydraulically adjustable suspension system that uses hydraulic cylinders to turn the torsion springs in the center. Just like having adjusters installed that you can adjust with the flick of a switch. Its done on the front and the rear. Some of you might remember my bus thread a while back. it took some time but it has been on the road , daily driven for over 2 years now with no issues at all. I've driven it all over florida, and have run it up and down showing everybody at car shows and wherever i go all day. It has a wireless keychain remote so i just sit back and run it up and down all day, scaring little kids and what not! I have had so much interest in this and i've had so much fun designing it that i've started working on building kits for type 1 and type 2 vws. The benefits are amazing ! The spring rate doesn't change like it does with an air bag kit. When you ride high or low...same spring rate. There is no waiting to fill up an air tank to take off. No noisy air compressor. It runs off of the same battery that starts the car. One hydraulic pump that i'm trying to get to fit under the back seat of a bug. On a bus or ghia it will fit in the engine compartment no prob.I've built my wife's 66 bug with this suspension but the body is in the paint stage right now so it hasn't hit the road. There is no cutting up front. The hydraulic beam will bolt right up. The rear involves cutting the center of the torsion housing . I will have detailed instructions with templates of where to cut , then the unit will drop right in and weld it up. best of everything! great ride! killer stance! instant lift! everything i build is over kill! thats just the way i do it. You can check my shop out on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/demonmotorsportsUSA?ref=aymt_homepage_panel
. we fabricate crazy drag race, street cars and even off road vehicles, but I love vw's! here are some pics of my bus all over the state and some pics of the rest of the work so far. Sorry i don't want to give out all the secretes just yet ..i've spent a lot of time engineering this to work perfect and im sure it will be copied sooner or later.... might as well be later!

Love it! I've had the pleasure of playing with that key fob and making the demon bus put smiles on people's faces. Very, very quality work. I'll be in line for a kit when it's released for sure. |

Awesome! I may invest in a kit for my next project.
You've got me stumped how the rear works though. Where are the cylinders?? _________________ Custom doesn't come in a Box! |

The rear cylinders are inside the tunnel. Its a tight fit but super clean and out of the way |

Seedip.com for a patent if you haven't already.
Ask to be referred to Dave Carlson and tell him his nephew Michael sent you.
That is some sweet stuff. |

So first off i would like to say that i love the design and the efforts that have been put into this design. Being a mini trucker before getting my 65 type 1 i have had hydros on my trucks. What my question is that the setup i have ran needed 24 volts to run the pumps. So is it a super small pump or are the pumps upgradable? Again i would like to say great job and love the idea. Thanks for your time |

not positive on the pump you were running but most cars with hydros us a 12 volt pump and run batteries in series to put 24, 36,48 or more volts to them to make them move real fast so they can hop. i am using basically the same 12 volt pump and running it off the same battery that is already in the car. think of it more like a tail gate lift on the back of a truck or a dump trailer. they just run 12 volts to them... actually that's how the pump is designed to work. it will last much longer this way. i use a directional valve to direct flow to the front or the back and use dump valves to lower... i still have a generator, no alternator in my bus and its been running like this for over 2 years with no issues at all. and i use it alot at car shows all day ..still fires right up at the end of the day... also because its 12 volts , it charges as it runs so you never have to do anything with it..
Thanks for the compliments! |

Been working on it! everything will be perfect! thats just how i do things. I have the rear built for the ghia and i'm now building the jigs i need to be able to produce these without the car. Here are some pics of the hydraulic power unit. All the valves are on this one unit and it will lift and lower the front and back independently. no waiting for the air tank to fill . Its ready to work instantly! It is a lot more compact than any air system. Just run 1 hose to the front and 1 hose to the rear...thats it!

I agree with Grampa Pete. I too like creative people.
While I'm not a fan of the air bag stuff. I find myself intrigued by this setup.
I like the idea of having normal riding suspension that is highly adjustable as far as ride height goes on the fly. I mean driving with it raked out like a "cal looker" and then taking it to my 78yo mothers house and have her comment that the car just looks so nice in stock form.
I think it will be cool to pull up to a parking spot and just drop it to the ground instantly. And then just a instantly lift it back up for the drive off. The jaw drops would be priceless.
Can you give us sambanistas a hint at the cost you are thinking of asking for this finely engineered hydraulic package?
I would think that the air bag guys will rethink their decision after reading about your hydraulic system.
I hope to see you market this soon. Keep up the great work. _________________ I have learned over the years.

This definitely seems like a great approach. I drive static drops, but it's hard to ask anybody else to drive it. It's kind of an art driving a slammed car, no?
Ferries. Bad roads. Nasty driveways. This could solve it all! |

Yep! No need to find a smooth entrance to a shopping center. or stop traffic behind you cause you have to maneuver around road debri ! just press the switch and keep driving!! |

Is there a failsafe designed in that if the hydraulics failed, the pan wouldn't hit the ground? |
