I need opinions and/or advice. I recently had my bus painted by a shop that is known for their custom work and has a good reputation. My bus had no rust, dents, or body damage and it cost me $4800 to have it repainted, pearl white for the roof and purple for the body. There is orange peel throughout the paint job, certain areas were not masked off and so the purple sprayed onto the white, the engine compartment and hatch were not touched at all, there is a six inch drip near the passenger door. The shop said they would buff all of this out and that its a mediocre paint job because i paid a mediocre price. I did not ask for a mediocre paint job or haggle the price. I took it to the shop, said I wanted to have it completely repainted and showed them the colors I wanted to use. I was quoted $4800 and said sounds great. My questions are: Will buffing actually fix all of the paint problems? I feel like $4800 should have been a better quality paint job, do you agree or disagree?

Ouch.

If it were mine, I wouldn't let this place touch the bus again and look for another shop.
They screwed up once... probably will make things worse if given another chance. (but that's my opinion).

Let them buff the paint job as they usually do for orange peel. Does the paint have clear coat on top?

Wow. I agree with you. Did they say "We'll half-ass it for $4800, or do a great job for $6500"? Sounds like "mediocre" is their standard.

Some of that will buff out, but not the overspray.

If it were me, and I had the $$$ available, I'd be looking for someone else to at least cover the mistakes.
If I didn't have the $$$, I'd take it back to Mr. Mediocre and let them buff out their flubs.

But don't expect much. Rolling Eyes

well, bad news, the body shop said they would "fix it" and it is even worse than it was before. there are scratches all over it that look like a spirograph, the paint is cloudy because it has been buffed too deeply, and they still did not fix the overspray.

I would tell them your not happy and that you want it done correctly. Your not nitpicking it. If they dont comply, call your lawyer. $4800 is very very very cheap to do a bus. That should have been a red flag. I would have likely charged 10-12 grand or more.
