Got new idfs for bug and it won't idle. It revs good but won idle.

Cleaned idle jets, blew a little air through idle jet holes and mix screw holes with carb cleaner, tried it at all different fuel pressures and nothing helped. Sprayed it with starter fluid looking for leaks but didnt find any.

115 mains 55 idles and 200 air with f11 (had it pre jetted and cleaned by ACN)

2007cc web 163 and l3 heads plus 034 dist

Oh messed with timing and it helped with a butt load of advance. New cap, rotor, points, plug wires and plugs (gapped at .028 )

I'm stumped and this is getting old

Have you synchronized them? What exhaust are you running?

My idle improved greatly after I closed the Air Bypass screws and just used the Idle speed screw on each to set idle speed. And you really need to fine tune the linkage after you get it idling w/o linkage hooked up.

The only way it'll idle at all is with the idle speed screw one turn in (exposing progression ports). I've tried bumping them down (with a sync and no linkage) and it just starts to die.

It'll sound like it runs good with idle speed screw at 1 turn and mix screws turned all the way in. That's not how they should run...

Doing all this with no linkage and air bleeds turned all the way in

What happens when you turn the airbleeds out 1 turn and set things up?

Check for vacuum leaks!

Something else is wrong.... You have vacuum leaks or timing problems...

Basic set up of carbs for start up is use "lean best idle adjustment" process.... Air bypass screws closed, idle mixture screws out 2 turns and idle speed screw 1 to 1-1/2 turn in after screw initially touches linkage arm...

So what happened when you tried turning the idle mixture screws out? if this is a new motor you will need them out more until the rings seat.

Not really any change.

John at ACN said I have the wrong jets and are sending new ones (have 55 idles and need 50s).

Also you can't just crank the idle screw in to 1.5 turns because it'll expose progression ports. Just because the links given say to doesnt mean its correct.

I'll get it figured out I hope.

is it the carbs/car or tuner?..or both. might also be an intake gasket at the intake/head joint.and then there's the timing.is it right? using a snail to get them all the same?

Prob a lil of both.

Timing, lash and points are all set. New plugs wires cap rotor condenser too.

To check fuel psi can I just t my pressure gauge in the line before it splits off to to the carbs? I've read about dead ending the fuel to the t but I'm not sure what is better.

When I change out the idles I'm gonna make sure I don't expose progression ports and make sure the mix screw is below throttle plates. Maybe my half turn is off

might want to addvance the timing for idle so you can get it to idle then start working everything out and timing back down . also bypass may be bypassing toomuch..or not enough.

I have the bypass screws all the way closed (redline says not to use them).

Installed the new 50 idles and it purrs now. Advancing timing did help to get it tuned at first.
